So how does WV football compare to KY football?

Not as strong as KY overall... a lot fewer teams and a lot less bigger schools. Generally speaking WV will have 4 or 5 really strong 3A schools (biggest class) that is on par with the best 5A and 6A teams in Kentucky outside of Trinity, X, Male, Highlands. Then the drop off is steep and fast. Traditionally the top teams are Capital, South Charleston, Cabell Midland, Martinsburg, and George Washington.

 

Same can be said for the smaller schools... WV will have a couple 2A and a couple 1A schools that would translate to Top 5 teams in the Bluegrass. Top teams are Wayne, Bridgeport, Wheeling Central Catholic, and Williamstown.

 

If Cabell was in KY what classification are they and where would they fall in the rankings in that classification in KY?

 

CM is the largest school in WV and would be one of the largest 6A Public Schools in Kentucky. They would be in the 7-12 range in 6A. The best comparison would be Simon Kenton or Cooper.

 

How is Cabell's district compared to Belfry's district?

Non-Existent.. West Virginia's system is different than Kentucky's and their playoffs are seeded. Most teams play in a "Conference" to hep ensure games and competition... CM plays in the best Conference in WV and it would compare to the new NKY 6A Districts.

 

For those of us that don't live on the state line how can we form an informed opinion about Cabell without knowing any of that and without seeing them play like you can? Take a Belfry fan's word for it? That's like you all taking my word for it that Central Hardin is better than any team on Belfry's schedule.

 

The internet and technology really has changed the landscape of High School football. Hudl, Youtube, and CPU Rankings have came a long way. Plus considering a school like Cabell Midland is within a 15 minute drive of numerous KY towns and BGP fanbases it isn't exactly far fetched that numerous posters such as some people in this thread have been able to see them perform live.

 

If you want to use the "ignorance is bliss" defense and refuse to accept the testimony of people from fanbases not even involved in this discussion then knock yourself out. I get it.. in your opinion Boyle plays a tougher schedule than Trinity because those GCL teams and Tennessee private schools are the same as playing a "BYE" week. I will be sure to send a letter to Coach Haywood to opt out of their contract with CM and Knoxville Catholic and try to play teams from Central KY who probably will not win their respective regions like Collins, Danville, Lincoln County, Dunbar, and Anderson County. He obviously forgot how to schedule entering this season. Nevermind the fact he has 5 teams who opened the season in their respective class' Top 5.

This isn't some random homer Belfry fan, this is me. And you and I both know I ain't never lied to you and I ain't about to start now. I have no reason to, especially over some unimportant side issue like this that has nothing to do with the thread topic.

I wouldn't argue you that Lex Cath is the best team in the class, they very likely are.

 

That is not what we were talking about at all. We were telling you about the strength of two out of state teams, which again has NOTHING to do with these rankings. It has nothing to do with who we are fans of. It is a tangental issue completely.

I'm impartial as far as Boyle and Belfry go, and I don't see how deliberately disregarding part of anyone's schedule simply because it comes from out-of-state makes sense. This is the information age, there are data aplenty whether teams are across state lines or not.

How do you know about games/teams you don't see in person? You hear about them from the people who did. Why should it matter if those people are from inside or outside of this state? I mean, teams from different states do play each other. It's not like there is absolutely no basis for comparison. If someone from TN does a write up about Brentwood being good this year, I won't automatically doubt him simply because I haven't seen a thread about them on here.

I can't speak on what I don't know and obviously my lack of knowledge about WV and TN teams got you guys all sensitive and in your feelings today. That's you. That ain't me. I've never been a fan of trying to compare out of state teams to KY teams. It never fails, every school who plays an out of state team ALWAYS plays one of the top teams from that state. Then we go to the nationally known website and it shows that those teams from out of state are indeed one of the top teams from that state. Then we look at the KY state rankings from that same website and they have stuff like Central Hardin ranked #8 overall and Boyle County not even ranked.
