Belfry is at the top and looks to remain there unless something happens? Lexington Catholic has a big game against Ryle this week, can they win? Can Boyle be upset by #8 Bell County? Who will be number two next week. Is Paducah Tilghman better then most people think? Who should move up? Who should move down? Who else should be in the discussion.

The top 4 teams in this weeks rankings all are involved in games that should be "must see"

Belfry opens up against a decent 6A Tates Creek team that in most people's minds is no where near the strength of the teams that Tilghman and Boyle dispatched of this past week. The Pirates top ranking may slip away from them if they do not handle their business this week. Belfry has a tendency to open up the season a little slow and get better each week, however the past couple years may not fit that mold. I'm interested to see how the Pirates handle the Commodores this week in comparison to the other top tier teams who already have that game under their belt.

LexCath plays a decidedly better Ryle team this week and should be a better measuring stick than Boone Co was.

The Boyle vs. Bell game will be a good one to watch also and will go a long way in molding the 3A rankings. I suspect Boyle will be the favorite, especially playing at home.

The game of the week in this class should be the Tilghman vs Central Hardin game. Boyle eked out a slim victory over the Bruins last week and Tilghman looked really impressive over another top ten 6A team McCracken. This matchup will be eye opening and might foster a shake up in these rankings.

As we have been saying for months, Class 3A is going to be a gauntlet, but a lot of fun to watch.

I know Belfry has traditionally been slow starters but I'll be shocked if they struggle with Tates Creek, especially at home.

They look to me like they are struggling a little for identity. I know it was only scrimmages, but they have a few spots on the field that it seems like they are having a hard time finding someone to take over. They do return a lot of experience, though, and scrimmages are hard to watch at Belfry because they play so many different lineups and experiment a lot.

I guess I will wait until Friday and just see how it plays out.

Belfry is obviously the most prestigious team in 3A if they stay #1 without having done anything. If LexCath defeats Ryle they should be #1 next week without question.

Would a victory over Ryle be more prestigious than a victory over Central Hardin? I don't think so at this point.

There aren't a whole lot of absolutes when ranking high school teams after one week of games. That is expecially true when some teams have played and others have not. I wouldn't add any "without questions" just yet until we see a little more results.

Even if LexCath beats Ryle, there are a couple other teams who have the opportunity to claim #1 . Belfry is one of them if they beat Tates Creek convincingly, but if they lay an egg they will surely drop. Also Tilghman is a team who may claim that that spot if they take care of business against Central Hardin.

If LexCath defeats Ryle that will be the best victory to date for the top 3A schools. Ryle already has a victory over a ranked team in their victory over CovCath. No other 3A school can claim that kind of victory yet.

We all know Belfry is going to beat Tates Creek just like we knew LexCath would defeat Boone.

Most expected Boyle to defeat a preseason ranked 6A Central Hardin and Boyle did so and this week Boyle faces #8 ranked 3A school Bell County. If Boyle wins should they be above Belfry?

Most expected Paducah Tilghman to lose to preseason ranked McCracken County and now they face an unranked 6A Central Hardin. If PT can defeat CH convincingly then they definitely have a good argument to move up in the rankings and should they be above Belfry also?

LexCath, Boyle and Tilghman all have tougher schedules than Belfry does. IMO that should reflect in the rankings.

No way you can compare beating Tates Creek helps your argument. Ryle is a way better team.

Out of district does Belfry have a great schedule. I know LexCath has to play:

Ryle

Johnson Central

Madison Central

Cooper

Southwestern

If LexCath defeats Ryle that will be the best victory to date for the top 3A schools.
I personally think Boyle County's win over Central Hardin is right there will that one. I didn't say better. I said right there with it.

Tates Creek is awful this season, In fact they have been just mediocre in the last several season. So no kudos in beating 6A TC.

Agreed. That's my point. The next 3 teams in 3A can all win this week but Belfry will remain #1 by default because they won because of their lighter schedule.

It's very solid win for sure. Definitely a better victory than Tates Creek.

Didn't Boyle beat Tates Creek by 8 in a scrimmage? And I know, I know, "they played subs, they ran different plays, they were within scoring distance twice and didn't score, etc." Point being it is really hard to make definitive judgments on team's placement in the rankings after only one or two games.
