Gas is $1.96 in South Carolina. How about where you are?

Anyone notice that refineries never seem to break down when oil is near $80-$100 and gas is $3.40 +?

I remember plenty of breakdowns when gas was at $3 and above. That period of time a few years ago when gas was at $3.90 and above, I specifically remember was a result of a shutdown. Hurricanes in the gulf cause refinery shutdowns all the time, which jack the gas prices up temporarily.

There's no hurricane anywhere right now. And if you read my post, I never said there was. There are always refinery breakdowns every year, sometimes a couple times a year, whether gas is cheap(er) or not. And they always raise the price when that happens. I used hurricanes as an example of why refineries sometimes shut down or aren't operating. Are you disagreeing with the fact that every time there is a hurricane in the gulf, that refineries close and the price of gas increases??

Convenient break down as oil is approaching decade lowes. You would think with the billon dollar profits they've made over the past decade, they could buy some new pipes.

I buy a hurricane logic much more than a "break down" which results in one of the highest gas spikes we've seen in years.

Bardstown stores eventually came to an agreement and everybody went to $2.59 on (I think) Sunday. But it's been dropping a penny or two per day since, to the point the local market driver — 5-Star — has it at $2.56 as of a few hours ago.

The day — again, Sunday, I think — where there were some places at $2.39 and others at $2.59 represents the most volatile gas price day ever in my eight years living in Bardstown.
