Two comments. First, as noted above, many middle school students play on high school teams in the JCPS. Second, if JCPS choose to place restrictions on themselves, why is it unfair that others choose not to impose those restrictions.
News to me. Unless things have changed, this rarely to never happens in Jefferson County.

I will shed some light on how this thing of 8th graders working out/playing at a high school in Jefferson County. If a kid is attending a middle school that feeds into that high school then they can play for that team as an eighth grader. That is the reason for 8th grade kids at JCTMS playing for Male teams. That leaves out Manual, Central and Brown. Those schools have no defined districts or feeder middle schools. Now there have been times when a kids has been accepted by one of these schools but continue to be pursued by one of the Parochial schools and invite the kid to their school to participate in workouts prior to the end of his 8th grade school year. These kids then have the opportunity to build a relationship with players and coaches and ultimately end up changing their mind and attend those schools.

Always happy to inform.

At Trinity, the kid has to have registered to attend next year before they are allowed to participate. Nice try, but no cigar.

I believe I remember Oxnard or one of the St. X alumni say X follows the same guideline. Not sure about DeSales and Holy Cross.

OK. I quit.

8th graders can participate in lifting and working out, things to that nature but if they participate in any type of varsity football game they lose a year of eligibility i believe. I know at many schools around nky they have 8th graders playing freshman ball.

Man I wonder how Dennis Johnson got to play at all at Harrodsburg High School. He would have used up his eligibility in the 7th grade!

Apparantly schools in Jefferson County allow 7th graders to participate on varsity teams.

Ever hear the story about those in glass houses not throwing things?

And before you give me the feeder school party line, this player COULD choose to attend another high school but she has already developed relationships with the other players and coaches. Isn't that unfair to the other schools?

^ I was just going to post that.

7th and 8th graders are prohibited per KHSAA rules from playing varsity football.

Isn't that the "Dennis Johnson" rule?
