How is it a terrible argument? Is there no validity to the public schools not being able to compete with kids from outside Jefferson County? I think BR90 was just making a valid point. I still don't understand how you people can continue to say that it is right for players to come from other counties and states to T and X and public schools HAVE to play those schools with kids from ONE county.

Tony Driver, one of Male's all time greats grew up in Glasgow...his brother played for Glasgow high school. He went to Male High School. What does that say about your arguement? And, how does the differential in tuition weigh towards your argument?

News to me. Unless things have changed, this rarely to never happens in Jefferson County.

You should ask J-town's Freshman baseball caoch how many kids he has from Meyers Middle School playing for him.

Actually Tony driver was "adopted" by someone here in Louisville and that is how he ended up at Male. His brother played his first year at Male then went back home to Glasgow. You all might be correct that a kid from another county in KY could come to a public school and pay tuition. However, that kid would not have the option of applying for "financial aid" like the parochial schools. With that being said, I guess the public school principals should get together and start actively start recruiting kids outside of the county. Then set up a way that these same kids could get financial aid. Then the playing field would be level. I don't think that will ever happen. So what do the coaches and kids that work so hard do when they still have to play you guys?

The issue of where Tony Driver grew up is consistently brought up and is consistently irrelevant. If he continued to live in Glasgow (or elsewhere outside of Jefferson County) while he went to Male, I would agree you have a point. Tony's situation was no different than Nick Petrino's, who also grew up outside of Louisville, but now lives here and attends Trinity. Tony didn't commute from Glasgow every day (like the stud lineman from Franklin County who will be attending Trinity this fall).

^ I am not drawing straws, but Nick lives with his parents here in Jefferson County, Tony lived with a coach, while his parents paid tuition. It is legal and by the book, I have no problems with it. I am just being informative.

Ditto to the irrelevance. Can anyone confirm any facts about the great Franklin County lineman heist other han some large young man was seen wearing a Trinity tee-shirt in Franklin County. For all we know the kid is moving to Jefferson County. Maybe he will be living with relatives for some reason. Maybe the whole story is untrue.

Just last year X had a kid on their frosh squad from Russell. Nothing sinister, the kid and his folks lived here for a year because of something related to his Dad's job.

If we don't have the facts give it a break. The fact is, there are no freshman yet. Many things can and will change from now until school starts.

Sweet! :flame:

Just to help you, being that you probably aren't fully informed on the situation. Trinity can only grant 50% tuition MAX. 50% of $8K is still $4K. And we can not decide who gets it and who doesn't. A disinterested 3rd party does. Male can charge tuition for out of county residents, but I think it is in the $200 range for the year.

There is a difference between the situation of

Tony Driver and that of Nick Petrino and that is that Nick's entire family relocated to Louisville whereas, as posted previously, Tony was "adopted" by "someone" in Louisville (who apparently lived in Male's district or otherwise had the wherewithal to get him into Male). Probably, Tony was not "adopted" but rather had a legal guardian appointed for him who lived in Male's district. Did Tony's family relocate to Jefferson County or was it just Tony? I believe that for purposes of establishing residency for public school enrollment, JCPS looks to the residence of the student's guardian - which in most cases is obviously the parent(s). An overzealous coach or school official could conceivably see to it that a student, by causing a guardian to be appointed, "resided" in their district.

The gaurdian could be an aunt, grandmother, other relative or even "someone" not blood-related.

Got a link to an official source of information for that?

^ I will look into it.......never mind what else was written, that must have been irrelevant ;)

"The Tuition Status area on the database will be filled in for these students. Tuition is paid to our school District either by the home district or by individuals."

Found the above on the site, working on the amount :thumb:

I love how Male people have the say on what is relevant.

How did Tony Driver get into Male? I thought it was fed purely by it's feeder system.

For that matter how did Ahrens get into Male? He was a product of a parochial school.

Funny. I had heard that TD lived with his Grandmother in Louisville when he attended Male. Was his Grandmother on Male's coaching staff, too?

Please note the section I indicated. If a home schools district is paying for a student to attend a JCPS school then isn't that student in effect receiving financial aid?
