As of today it would cost a non-resident of Jefferson County $4,122 to attend a JCPS, each year.

Funny. I had heard that TD lived with his Grandmother in Louisville when he attended Male. Was his Grandmother on Male's coaching staff, too?

Maybe, maybe not. I was just stating that he grew up in Glasgow, played at Male, and that his immediate family stayed in Glasgow, his little brother graduating from there.

I have never lived with my Grandmother..I did not attend Male and have no family that has ever coached there :irked:

So once again....someone tell me about the stud running back at X? Where is Ox?

I love how Male people have the say on what is relevant.

How did Tony Driver get into Male? I thought it was fed purely by it's feeder system.

For that matter how did Ahrens get into Male? He was a product of a parochial school.

Male has not always been fed entirely from the traditional middle schools. There used to be only one traditional middle school (JCTMS), which did not graduate enough 8th graders to fill Male's incoming freshman class. Hence, at-large admissions were common. Even after Barrett was brought online as the second traditional middle school, Male and Butler had excess capacity and could accept first-year applicants to the program. It has only been within the last few years that the third traditional middle school (Johnson) was added (well after Tony Driver's freshman year in 1993).

Gerry Ahrens attended Barrett Middle School (a feeder middle school to Male).

Better luck next time. Thanks for playing. :jump:

Actually Tony driver was "adopted" by someone here in Louisville and that is how he ended up at Male. His brother played his first year at Male then went back home to Glasgow. You all might be correct that a kid from another county in KY could come to a public school and pay tuition. However, that kid would not have the option of applying for "financial aid" like the parochial schools. With that being said, I guess the public school principals should get together and start actively start recruiting kids outside of the county. Then set up a way that these same kids could get financial aid. Then the playing field would be level. I don't think that will ever happen. So what do the coaches and kids that work so hard do when they still have to play you guys?

Sometimes it seems that some posters on PGP willfully misunderstand the situation regarding public/private. However, your post seems to be sincere. Let me clarify two misconceptions for you.

1) Misconception-"I guess the public school principals should get together and start actively start recruiting kids outside of the county."

Reality- Catholic school principals do not "get together and start actively recruiting kids outside of the county." In case you are unaware, there is quite a rivalry between St. X. and Trinity. It is doubtful that their principals "get together" over virtually anything, and they certainly don't "get-together" over "actively recruiting kids outside of the county".

2) Misconception-"You all might be correct that a kid from another county in KY could come to a public school and pay tuition. However, that kid would not have the option of applying for "financial aid" like the parochial schools."

Reality- RockPride, in post #53 noted that even with maximum need-based aid a student at Trinity would have to pay a minimum of $4000 in tuition. At St. X., tuition is about $8,500 per year and I do not believe that any student can receive more than about 40% need-based assistance. Conservatively, then, the minimum a student receiving maximum need-based aid would have to pay in tuition at St. X. is about $5,000. RockPride's subsequent post shows that "As of today it would cost a non-resident of Jefferson County $4,122 to attend a JCPS, each year." (See post #61). So you see, the kid from the public school would not even have to apply for financial aid and would still be better off financially than the kid from the St. X. or Trinity.

Gee, that's more than it costs to go to Trinity (with 50% financial aid), isn't it?

Please, Professor RockPride, continue your lecture on relevance...

^ do you think that it has always cost that much?

See the post above yours.

AND...and and....

a kid's local district can pay some, or ALL of the tuition.

Sorry....I thought I was in a forum about incoming X and T frosh....I'll go to the Public/Private forum for that info.....or better yet.....why don't all you thread jackers go there....and the rest of us can stay on topic!

My incoming Freshman hasn't made the weight room...too much baseball!!

alright..time to brag!!!

He went to the doctor because of knee pain....the dr. said that he will grow 5inches this summer and possibly another 4 before he is done. (they x-rayed growth plates....I still don't know if this is a guess or true science) He is a very large boy already...6' and 238lbs. He wants to play DE. He is 1st degree black belt in TaeKwonDo which helps him tremendously in the pit.

I can't wait to see how he does....He will join his big brother (in age only) at X who will be a sophmore.

A teammate of my son's (Stephen Lichtefeld) is waiting to see if financial aid is approved. He is wanting to go to Trinity....Seneca might win by default if he does not get it.....He is an awesome WR, RB, CB. He is extremely fast and has awesome hands. On defense...he is the guy that you don't want hitting you...He is also a very gifted basketball player...

So your saying that big Bob couldn't get a player in if he wants to. Sorry I ain't buying.

In all seriousness, I heard Bobby can no longer get any kid he wants, so he will be leaving when another "traditional" program is started.

How long has it been since they played in December? Bobby's lack of entrance requirements control could explain a few things. Can we stop calling it the Big 3 now?

The "loophole" does seem to be tightened....I am not ready to give up on the Dogs yet....they have won 1 championship, and been to two more in the 2000's, same as the Tigers.
