August 16, 201511 yr She must be removed by recall of the voters that elected her. So I say hold a special election and recall her, however, if the people she represents choose not to recall her, then they must agree that she is performing to their satisfaction. True ? I believe this is a States Right issue and the Federal government should not be dictating to states how they issue any particular license. I also believe that everyone who is showing up with a camera to video not being issued a license are just publicity hounds. Have a recall vote and see what the people of Rowan County say…then force the State of Kentucky to back up or shut whatever their position is. Is Loving v. Virginia applicable here? The law vs inter-racial marriage was argued as a states right issue.
August 16, 201511 yr It's more of an inconvenience to make a short film at the courthouse than it is to drive 10 minutes to another one. And I agree that she should be removed from office if she can't do her job correctly. They got really fast cars.
August 16, 201511 yr I've asked that question before. I know places like Casey County, if you ran in a special election by saying you would indeed grant same sex marriage licenses, you wouldn't win. I feel like there could easily be a wave of people running for clerk who will disobey the Supreme Court ruling. And a lot of places, that would be a popular and winning opinion. Sadly, you may be correct.
August 16, 201511 yr They got really fast cars. I lived in Morehead for 10 years. It's not much more than 10 minutes.
August 16, 201511 yr Morehead to Olive Hill is 18.4 miles. Morehead to Owingsville is 20.9 miles. REALLY fast cars.
August 16, 201511 yr Morehead to Olive Hill is 18.4 miles. Morehead to Owingsville is 20.9 miles. REALLY fast cars. The point is still the same. If you really want to be married right now, drive 15 minutes to Olive Hill and do the deed. You don't need a production crew or 10 cameras to make it happen.
August 16, 201511 yr The point is still the same. If you really want to be married right now, drive 15 minutes to Olive Hill and do the deed. You don't need a production crew or 10 cameras to make it happen. I don't disagree with the premise that it is only a minor inconvenience. What I can't abide is that there is ANY inconvenience.
August 16, 201511 yr I don't disagree with the premise that it is only a minor inconvenience. What I can't abide is that there is ANY inconvenience. I'm not disagreeing with that at all. It's not up to Kim Davis to judge these folks. If they want to get married, do your job and let God do the judging. I do things at my job occasionally that I personally disagree with but I still do my job to the best of my ability. That's what she should do as well.
August 16, 201511 yr In part I agree with you. If they truly wanted to get a marriage license, 20 minutes in any directions they are being given out like candy. Which is ok if that's what they want to do but I'm not buying the tears and heartache of being denied the only thing they've ever wanted...when they can just drive 10 minutes to Olive Hill or Owingsville. They pay taxes in that county just like anybody else. Why should they have to jump extra hurdles that John and Jenny Baptist don't?
August 16, 201511 yr Currently their is no law on the books in KY about marriage. The SC nullified the law that was there. Actually, the SC simply told Ky and all other states to get their house in order. There's no higher court to appeal to. Renders the previous law moot.
August 16, 201511 yr Is Loving v. Virginia applicable here? The law vs inter-racial marriage was argued as a states right issue. We probably solved that one several years ago
August 16, 201511 yr They pay taxes in that county just like anybody else. Why should they have to jump extra hurdles that John and Jenny Baptist don't? They shouldn't have to but I'm just saying that there's a much bigger hurdle in Rowan County right now
August 16, 201511 yr They pay taxes in that county just like anybody else. Why should they have to jump extra hurdles that John and Jenny Baptist don't? Why do you have to bring a specific religion into it ? Is that not a similar slur ?
August 16, 201511 yr If I really wanted to get married, I would just go to the nearest county that would give me a license. As a Conservative, I don't have time to beg for attention, I prefer to get things done and move on. Symbolism over substance is not my thing.
