August 24, 201511 yr Rally's are no indication of what people really think. Really ? Because I thought that was the purpose of a rally, to show group support of a particular idea. So what you're saying is that the people of Ferguson, MO, who held a rally, really didn't think that the police overstepped in the Brown case ? Where did I miss this ? August 24, 201511 yr Absolutely not. I support the definition of marriage that stood unchallenged until very recently: the social institution under which a man and a woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc. This is from Webster's Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary of the English Language, copyright 1989. This definition does not allow polygamy. Those who have redefined the word marriage are actually the ones who are opening it up to include polygamous relationships. If it can mean nearly anything, it means nothing. That has been my consistent view as stated in various threads. Here we get to the reality of the marriage issue. It's not that people support Kim Davis' freedom of religion. If so, they'd support others, including polygamists. What they are really supporting is that she thinks like they do. Polygamy has been a social institution in many cultures for centuries. Though I would not personally be part of a polygamist relationship, I don't have a problem with those that do.

August 26, 201511 yr Appeals court denies stay for Rowan Co. clerk The key quote from the 6th Circuit - ""it cannot be defensibly argued that the holder of the Rowan County Clerk’s office, apart from who personally occupies that office, may decline to act in conformity with the United States Constitution as interpreted by a dispositive holding of the United States Supreme Court. There is thus little or no likelihood that the Clerk in her official capacity will prevail on appeal." Edited August 26, 201511 yr by jpa2825
August 26, 201511 yr It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow when people go to the Rowan County Clerk to get marriage licenses.
August 26, 201511 yr Really ? Because I thought that was the purpose of a rally, to show group support of a particular idea. So what you're saying is that the people of Ferguson, MO, who held a rally, really didn't think that the police overstepped in the Brown case ? Where did I miss this ? Let me clarify. It does not represent what others thinks, what the majority think. At times there are more people at a Klan rally that protesters. Occupy is a good example, how many thousands of people were marching? Where were the counter protests? Now Occupy started out with a good cause but quickly went in a thousand directions and went away from their roots. But the later rallies, which drew a heck of a lot of people, were not a representation of how the majority of voters in the nation felt, not even the majority of the people in those cities.
August 27, 201511 yr I just moved to Morehead recently for a new job and was planning to update my license at the courthouse tomorrow on my day off. Looks like that won't be happening with this decision. Don't want to run into what is likely going to be a crazy crowd there tomorrow although I might try to drive by to see what it looks like.

August 27, 201511 yr Gay couple turned away 3rd time by Rowan clerk Here we go! She is going to jail. I sure hope so.
August 27, 201511 yr She's never going to do it. We all know that. I mean, do people think she is going to wake up and say "Well, it's been legal for a few months, I guess I'll do it now." If she hasn't already done it, she won't. Clearly she has no respect for legal decisions, so more legal decisions mean nothing to her. For Rowan County to issue the license, it will have to be a different person in that offic .
August 27, 201511 yr Loser has to pay the winner's attorneys fees. She is going to saddle the county with a huge debt when this judgment is awarded against her. I would be outraged if I lived in Rowan County that she is being so irresponsible.

IMO she should at least lose her job.
