July 31, 201511 yr I hate talking about this topic... I really do. The whole concept of it makes me unbearably depressed. I'll never wrap my mind around someone terminating a pregnancy. It's a child in there; it's a child with no protection and no one to speak for it or ensure its well-being. I also try my best to be sympathetic to women who find themselves in terrible positions. I'm not likely to call for prosecution of women who terminate pregnancy... Jesus that term... "terminate pregnancy"... it sends a shiver down my spine. I'll never believe it isn't a profoundly terrible thing to kill a defenseless child in the womb... but how to make others see it? I wish I knew. See there, @Randy Parker. Getslow is a nice guy. Can't you see that? :lol2:
July 31, 201511 yr My response: The heart that stops beating after an abortion does not belong to the mother. It's not her body that dies, but the baby's body. This is why I could never understand the phrase, "My body, my choice."

August 4, 201511 yr For what it's worth, my response was to people answering Clyde's question about whether abortion should be treated as murder, to which I said that if so it opens up a lot of other questions, a lot of them philosophical. But, I don't think if Roe were overturned tomorrow we could revert back to 1960s laws and the discussion would end and everything would be copacetic. At the very least, advances in medicine would change some things, but the debate over abortion wasn't settled at the time and it wouldn't be settled today; we'd still have debates over new laws and how to handle these issues. IMO, this is as close as the Court will ever get to overturning abortion. Can't put that toothpaste back in the tube. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_Parenthood_v._Casey
August 4, 201511 yr From a moral standpoint, I'm against it. From a legal standpoint, I think the parent(s) have the right to choose. Now, I would impose some type of limitation on when the abortion could be done (i.e. not in the last trimester). Agreed...
August 4, 201511 yr Gov Huckabee says he would consider using troops or the FBI to stop women from having abortions. Most honest, consistent politician out there. Also why he won't win.
August 4, 201511 yr Author Most honest, consistent politician out there. Also why he won't win. Honest? I guess if he said that would be his desire if he were king. He's blowing smoke to appease his very small base. You don't really think he would call for troops, right?
August 4, 201511 yr I believe it should be legal with limitations as to term. I voted that I do not agree with it on moral grounds, but I am not in a position to judge, nor would I.

Spot on.
August 6, 201511 yr Some history as I remember. Induced abortions before Row v Wade were in the closet. you know someone who knows someone, you go out of state to an area where it is easy to get one, or you desperately try a coat hanger or other rustic tool. The abortionists were prosecuted when something went wrong and the women died or ended up in a hospital bleeding or with infection. Sometimes they were reported and raided. A miscarriage ends a pregnancy spontaneously before the 20th week. An abortion can be spontaneous before a fetus is viable or can be induced. Morally, abortion makes me sick at my stomach. I could never be a part of the procedure. It needs to be legal. I hate saying that. What really needs to be done is make birth control as easy to get as candy. Make young people so aware of it that they choose birth control before sex. Make sex education mandatory in middle school. Parents don't do their jobs because it "is hard to talk about". Every girl and boy should learn enough to know "safer" cycles. Make it so we don't need to have more abortions than any other 1st world country.
August 6, 201511 yr For those that say it should be illegal I'll ask what I always ask: What should be the punishment? You and I have gone down this path a few times. You don't accept my answer so I'll sit this one out. I'll just say I'm a libertarian as a libertarian I find abortion to be murder and I feel comfortable saying it should be illegal.
August 6, 201511 yr This kind of punitive mentality is why we have 25% of the worlds incarcerated population when we have 5% of the worlds population. At $50k/yr/inmate that is where government needs to be focused. If you believe abortion to be murder then how can I in good conscious not want it to be illegal. Should we not punish murder or is that to punitive ?
August 6, 201511 yr I think these are important questions. How can we distinguish between a miscarriage and an abortion? Would we then consider miscarriages homicides? Obviously intent would be hard to prove 8n some cases , in other cases it would not. I think it would also be a safe guard for fathers who don't want their child aborted.
August 8, 201511 yr I think it should be illegal in all cases. In cases of rape or incest, I see no reason to punish the child just because his/her's conception was not planned. Anyways, this is pretty powerful:
