NFL Upholds Brady Suspension

Recommended Posts

Question I have.

Is it a 4 game suspension or 4 week suspension?

Just curious because week 4 of the season is a bye week for the Pats so if it is weeks he only misses 3 games.

Nfl also struck first in filing a lawsuit in NY which means NY has jurisdiction in this case

amd the suit was filed by the NFL so the courts can basically say yes the NFL was right. To do what they did and their findings.

This is also keeps Brady etc to file in Boston or Minnesota for example where they may be leniant to the players cause.

4 games. He is scheduled to return Week 6... against the Colts.

Statement from Don Yee, Brady's agent:

"The Commissioner’s decision is deeply disappointing, but not surprising because the appeal process was thoroughly lacking in procedural fairness.

Most importantly, neither Tom nor the Patriots did anything wrong. And the NFL has no evidence that anything inappropriate occurred.

The appeal process was a sham, resulting in the Commissioner rubber-stamping his own decision. For example, the Wells investigative team was given over 100 days to conduct its investigation. Just days prior to the appeal hearing, we were notified that we would only have four hours to present a defense; therefore, we didn’t have enough time to examine important witnesses. Likewise, it was represented to the public that the Wells team was ‘independent’; however, when we requested documents from Wells, our request was rejected on the basis of privilege. We therefore had no idea as to what Wells found from other witnesses, nor did we know what those other witnesses said.

These are just two examples of how the Commissioner failed to ensure a fair process.

Additionally, the science in the Wells Report was junk. It has been thoroughly discredited by independent third parties.

Finally, as to the issue of cooperation, we presented the Commissioner with an unprecedented amount of electronic data, all of which is incontrovertible. I do not think that any private citizen would have agreed to provide anyone with the amount of information that Tom was willing to reveal to the Commissioner. Tom was completely transparent. All of the electronic information was ignored; we don’t know why. The extent to which Tom opened up his private life to the Commissioner will become clear in the coming days.

The Commissioner’s decision and discipline has no precedent in all of NFL history. His decision alters the competitive balance of the upcoming season. The decision is wrong and has no basis, and it diminishes the integrity of the game.”

Wow...he did not exactly hold back, did he?? As a Pats fan, I am very excited about the upcoming season. I think the Pats are going to play with a chip on their shoulder the size of a boulder...will be fun to watch.

Just so we are clear, in the NFLs eyes what Brady did and what Greg Hardy did were equal.

As far as the NFL, not society but the NFL what Brady did is worse for the game itself. Cheating is cheating period and people seem to ignore

that fact.

As as far as society goes, dui and domestic violence and drug use is worse than cheating in a game. This Dui etc has nothing to do with how the game is played. That is what people need to learn. Just because 2 seperate incidents got same punishment doesn't mean they are just as bad especially when dealing with two

different entities.

Cheat at the game IMO should be a longer punishment because it is directly related to the game itself and the NFL oversees THE GAME.

Patriots with their history of

cheating and after the warning from the commish should have had it much worse. Cheating no matter what the actual viation was is still

cheating.

And why exactly should they have a chip in their shoulder? You act as if they were wronged. You act as if it was the leagues fault they cheated AGAIN. You act as if it is the leagues fault they got caught.

I am not going to go through all the evidence again - we have on here ad nauseam. I do think the Pats were wronged terribly. If any other team in the NFL would have been involved, they would have gotten a small fine. The Pats were fined a million (I think), lost a draft pick, and lost their QB for four games...absolutely ridiculous. Goodell just makes up things as he goes along...just a terrible commissioner IMO.

You conviently ignored the reason they were punished so much. It was also reported at nasseum that the Patriots were told after the video gate episode in which they also got caught cheating that the next time they got caught cheating it would be more harsh because of being a repeat offender.

So you are right, if it was another team (that hadn't cheated in the past) the punishment wouldn't have been as severe.

Apparently Goodell found out that Brady had ordered his cell phone destroyed so the NFL couldn't get anything off of it.

To the contrary. They actually had everything from the others whom he communicated. He basically said I am not giving you my phone that I paid for and pay the bills with. The NFL believes he didn't cooperate (fully). He states he did by answering every question and attending every interview. The CBA is fuzzy on language about player cooperation in an investigation. That is the reason for the suspension and will be the impetus for the suit.

This is going to be fun. Possibly every owner, QB, ball boy, head coach etc. could be called to testify. I believe the owners do NOT want this. He will be playing opening night either through a settlement or more than likely an injunction.

Spygate happened seven years ago and NOBODY thinks Brady had anything to do with it. It was all put on Belichick. Not even the Wells report, as flawed as it is, says that Belichick had anything to do with deflate-gate. So you are giving extra punishment to Brady for something Belichick did seven years ago? Just a joke...

At least the court stuff and season will now be extra interesting.

That explains why the Pats organization got hammered, but not Brady. The Falcons cheated, what did Matt Ryan get? What about Cleveland?

The Pats were punished for spygate as well as coach.

Deflategate has to do with the Patriots, the Patriots again were punished.

For Spygate the punishment was as

follows, notice it wasn't just punishment for Belichick but the team also: fines totaling over $750,000 ($500,000 for Belichick, $250,000 for the team) and stripping New England of their first-round draft pick.

Also it doesn't matter if it was

7 years ago or 7 days ago.

It was hard to digest everything said by all the talking heads this afternoon, but it sounded like the basis for the appeal has less to do with the actual evidence of Brady's role in Deflategate, as compared to Roger's process/procedure/precedent in the whole affair. That's just what I took out of it.
