I thought the idea of a scrimmage was to evaluate your team. Why would anyone put an ounce of energy concerned about who wins and who losses a scrimmage?

Hey Ukfan, people are asking questions only you can answer.

Wait....

John Rodenburg?

If I am not mistaken Highlands won the overall scrimmage last year @ Cincy St. X..

My bad, don't remember that one since I wasn't able to attend. Thanks.

Highlands has a 1-5 JV record, and they lost Hoge. From what I've heard Cincy St. X is loaded is loaded again this year. No offense, but I have a hard time thinking Highlands can win.

So this should be a very valuable scrimmage for HHS as it sounds like they need to get some game experience against a good opponent quickly.

Here is how I see things working. Will be very much like last year and years past with Trinity. Played in game like situations, but there is so much movement of guys in and out that the end result on the scoreboard does not matter one way or another.

The comment about a JV record is downright hysterical. Do you think that Highlands is taking its JV team to play Varsity games this year? Do you know anything about the makeup of their roster?

I would also be surprised if all of the HHS kids even dress and play in this game because again it is a scrimmage.

Highlands will get out of it what they get out of every scrimmage.

All of those scrimmage losses must light a fire under the team. They have faired pretty well despite the scrimmage losses. My Purples have scrimmaged Manuel for the last 6 or 7 years and that seems to be working for us. I don't think it matters who you scrimmage, as long as that team can be competitive.

Highlands returns ten starters. Is it unreasonable to assume the people who will fill the gaps left by graduation were on the JV team last year?

I do agree with other posters saying that the score is not the purpose of a scrimmage and this will be an excellent opportunity for Highlands to test themselves. But the opening question was 'who will win?' so I gave my opinion on that.

Hard to say about the JV filling spots because they two platoon. So they essentially have two kids that play a lot at all positions and you could say "two starters". Now what I don't know is if that second starter would have played JV last year. I doubt it. But you're right, at some point, those JV kids are moving up to fill spots somewhere. But the question would be, was their JV filled with a lot of young kids and that led to not as successful of a season on the JV side regarding record? But also remember, every year HHS gets 30 new kids moving up to the varsity/JV roster, so they should be able to find a couple athletes out of those kids to fill spots.

If you approach it right, both teams are winners in a scrimmage.

Can you give me the 10 starters that they return please? Do you have to be considered a starter to not be a JV player?

I can tell you that they have 3 offensive lineman returning that played the entire year. A 4th lineman saw plenty of action at the Varsity level last year though was not a "starter" as you might call it. They return 3 receivers that all saw extensive action last year, in fact 2 of them caught touchdown passes in the state finals. They return a running back that single handidly defeated Ashland in the playoffs. The other 2 running backs played little to know JV ball last year. The QB saw extensive action at the JV level because he was backing up a Mr. Football candidate. He took it upon himself to get some help with his mechanics and thus has landed a Division 1 offer.

Defensively they return one DL that you would call a "starter", but there were a few others that saw extensive action. The LB corp returns 4 guys that were not "starters", but saw plenty of game action and played no JV games last year. The DB's return a "starter" and several others that saw extensive action at the Varsity level last year in the playoffs. Some may consider this group the weakest link, but when offenses have to drive the ball 80 yards to score, it becomes a little tougher than it looks.

All of these kids will be mixed and matched with kids that played JV and Frosh football last year in the scrimmage and more than likely in the first few games of the regular season.

If you approach it right, both teams are winners in a scrimmage.

I think coaches, players and most fans realize that. Still, if score is kept you want to win.

On the contrary.... While the StX defense has been their mainstay over the last several year (offense lacking), that will not be the case this year. StX is loaded offensively....with maturation of now Jr. QB (Sean Clifford), excellent offensive line, size at WR, and excellent RB's. As for Highland's scrimmage, not sure Coach Specht is going to show much, and is the same for Brian W. Cannot blame them.

But considering X opens with Cov. Cath., I am sure some on here will start and use the results of both the Highlands scrimmage, and the Cov Cath game....to get some read on comparing Highlands and Cov Cath. Good early season indicator? probably not, but some will use it.

Ramsey right?

Wait....

John Rodenburg?

Ok my last guess.....

Kerry Combs!

You have not added one specht of information to this thread. I exspecht more from you.

Stop worrying about coaches and spechtulate on who will win the scrimmage.
