July 20, 201511 yr The point of the thread is what can be done to stop shooting like this. Sorry but can't compare what happens in Israel to this. There's so much history and craziness there nothing is stopping that from happening. If this guy turns out to be some trained ISIS or Al Qaeda operative then I will re-think my position. In your view if a guy attacks an armed position then he is on a suicide mission, if he hits an unarmed position he is doing it because it is unarmed. But there is no way that just arming the Marines is a 100% (as you keep saying) way to prevent any and ALL attacks. BTW I support allowing them to be armed, but it isn't a 100% solution.
July 20, 201511 yr We as a country will not go all in. War is ugly, people die, terrorist, innocents, children, .........they die in war. We, the American People, do not have the stomach for war or we let the minority tell us how evil we are. You go to war to eliminate the enemy or pound them into submission, not to win hearts and minds. See - Japan and Germany compared to North Korea and Vietnam. The main differences was media was not imbedded and we fought to win....... You can pay me now, or you can pay me a lot more later...

I guess I need you to show me a situation where someone walked into a police station and opened fire and was expecting to walk out alive or at least not shot all to hell. Let me ask you this, any chance James Holmes walks into that theater if he knows everyone in it has a gun? Do you think the 2 kids in Columbine do what they did if the school has armed guards? You keep trying to compare these shooting here in the states to insurgent attacks in the Middle East. Using that logic then of coarse arming the marines wouldn't stop anything. If it did the wars would have ended when the first military troop transport landed.
July 20, 201511 yr I got a G-Bomb with ISIS' name on it. Just think of all the landfill space we could clear out.
July 20, 201511 yr If you're willing to get into a shootout and die (as this guy did) then the marines being armed wouldn't have made a lick of difference IMO.
July 20, 201511 yr If you're willing to get into a shootout and die (as this guy did) then the marines being armed wouldn't have made a lick of difference IMO. It would have gave the Marines a fighting chance. That's a huge difference.
July 20, 201511 yr I think the flaw in thinking arming people will stop attacks is that people assume the gunmen care whether they survive or not. In the cases that come to mind for me, school shooters included, there is no evidence they cared one way or another whether they lived. To answer the question, there is nothing the President can do. And the issue of shootings isn't new, it just gets a lot more attention today.
July 20, 201511 yr If you're willing to get into a shootout and die (as this guy did) then the marines being armed wouldn't have made a lick of difference IMO. Maybe he would have been killed before he killed 5 people. 1 death would have been tragic but much better then 5. One of the Marines had time to text his GF that there was a shooter. If he had that time would he have had time to shoot the guy if armed?
July 20, 201511 yr Here's the list. You tell me what the connection/issue is. A History of Shootings at Military Installations in the U.S. | NBC4 Washington Showing in the article 17 different incidents since Obama became president, 12 in just the last 4 years and before he took office there were only 2 and that was back in 95 which by coincidence is when another very liberal Democratic president was in office. The connection could very well be the liberal agenda.
July 20, 201511 yr It does seem that many of the shooters don't care if they live or die, but most of the time they DO seem to want to kill as many people as possible before they die or are caught. Those places tend to be ones in which those being shot at cannot carry a weapon. They are going to likely still do what they want to do SOMEWHERE, but I'd as soon it not be me, those I love and/or those that I am responsible for (my students). As such, I'd rather that there were fewer gun-free zones.
July 20, 201511 yr I guess I need you to show me a situation where someone walked into a police station and opened fire and was expecting to walk out alive or at least not shot all to hell. Here is one from a couple of months ago. If he expected to die why buy an armored car, why run? Dallas police HQ attack: Suspect James Boulware killed - CNN.com

July 20, 201511 yr Zero chance this guy walks in there shooting if he knows those 4 are armed. People who walk into police stations shooting are looking to commit suicide, nothing more. You will never stop that not matter what. Your analogy about terrorist opening fire on our soldiers in other countries just isn't the same thing. Again, zero chance this guy walks into a place with 4 marines he knows are armed and starts shooting. What makes you think this guy wasn't on a suicide mission? Your theory is full of more conjecture than mine. These Marines may be trained but they weren't expecting that fire power to attack them in TN

Murrow broadcasted from London rooftops during the blitz.
