The President Can Stop These Lone Wolf Shootings By.....

Featured Replies

On here, on Facebook, on any board you will find people that say the President and his administration are culpable in shootings like we had in Chattanooga last week.

If he's culpable then that means he can do something to help minimize these shootings.

What can he and his administration do to stop these shootings?

In regards to the Chattanooga shooting they can allow the soldiers to be armed. No chance that guy walks in there with a gun against 4 armed Marines.

What happened in Charleston, the answer is nothing. You will never eliminate something like that completely.

I agree with your first point but that's been the law since President Bush 41 implemented it. That's not what people are complaining about in regards to this President.

Does it matter who implemented the law? President Obama has been in office for 7 1/2 years and the law still stands. You asked what the President could do to stop these shootings.

No argument but IMO the vitriol has nothing to do with that point. It's much narrower in scope.

Other than what's been mentioned about the military carrying guns I don't see that there is anything the president can do. These type of lone wolf whack jobs will always be able to target someone.

Even if they were armed this guy or others would do something similar. The Federal Building in OKC had armed guards and they blew it up from the outside. While we would like to think the President is all powerful he isn't. President never deserves all of the credit that they get nor all of the blame that they get.

THIS.

IMO, shooting like this one would be 100% stopped if they were armed. What happened at the Fed Building in OKC has to be combated in different methods. No, you will never stop these types of things from ever happening but this latest one could have been so easily prevented.

Though this in and of itself wouldn't have stopped either of the recent shootings, he could change his opinion about "legal, law abiding" citizens owning and carrying guns and show full support of the 2nd amendment. That would be a step in the right direction. That's where a lot of the "vitriol" starts I believe.

The President himself can pretty much do nothing to stop these things, and though I am FAR from a fan of this man, no blame can be placed at his door for this. Just like no blame can be put on the gun used in the shootings...that rests totally on the shoulders of the shooter and any accomplices/agitators he may have had helping spur him on.

I think the vitriol stems from the view that he is soft on Islam. Let's say he does have a special place in his heart for the majority of Islams who do not advocate violence.

Can we take that stance and say "that's why....?"

Well there's that too, BUT his seeming dislike for the 2nd amendment and gun rights plays a huge roll in it as well. Just so happens both of those issues intersect in this particular incident.

I hope they allow the soldiers to carry.

That said, I'm not convinced it would have been stopped if they were armed. Listening to the events in detail, the four he killed at the 2nd site were killed while the gunman was being pursued and in gun battle with Chattanooga Police.

I think it's a step in the right direction for the future to repeal the ban from '92-'93 for military sites and places but I can't say it would have been totally different in this event because the law enforcement was upon him by the time he got to the site where he killed the marines.

Um...NO. People have walked into police stations and started shooting, they KNOW the police are armed. Terrorist open fire on our soldiers in other countries inside of their camps KNOWING that they are armed.

I have ZERO problems with at least having an armed soldier at the door/gate, but just having an armed person will not stop 100% of these types of attacks.

It would probably stop them sooner and it would in all likelihood save lives, but it won't stop them.

I don't get the connection with shootings in Chattanooga/Charleston/Ft Hood and the 2nd amendment.
