July 20, 201511 yr I don't get the connection with shootings in Chattanooga/Charleston/Ft Hood and the 2nd amendment. It's the Presidents overall attitude toweards the 2nd amendment. Many people are more than willing to place unwarranted blame his way because of his dislike of it and where some of his "culpability" comes into play in some's eyes.
July 20, 201511 yr In regards to the Chattanooga shooting they can allow the soldiers to be armed. No chance that guy walks in there with a gun against 4 armed Marines. What happened in Charleston, the answer is nothing. You will never eliminate something like that completely. The second point, maybe stop creating an environment where racism becomes bigger than it was just a decade ago. Instead of closing the gap between the races he has done nothing but create a bigger divide. If you have to ask how he has created more tension with race relations you simply have been sleeping the last 8 years. Finally, to help take care of some of the other violent crimes that can very easily be stopped, actually start holding illegals to the law and deport those that are here illegally. If you don't want to do that, then change the law. As of now his administration wishes to ignore the law which has allowed more and more criminals from every country to make their homes in this country without any contributions to this society.

We'll disagree on the racism issue. No one "causes" racism. It's always there. Some just react negatively when it's brought to light and , therefore, it becomes an "issue." Take Charleston out of the equation for this thread. How could the President have influenced Chattanooga or Fort Hood or ....?
July 20, 201511 yr I agree. While I'm not saying that ALL Democrats fan the flames of racial divide I will say that much like abortion is a hot button topic for Republicans, race relations is a hot button issue for Democrats.

No one causes racism is correct, BUT when you are in a position to help race relations and you do just the opposite then you are part of the problem and in this case the President is a huge part of the problem with just the way he has handled many of the incidents with regards to racism since the very first year of his presidency.

His administrations lax resolve when it comes to immigration and their stance on domestic terrorist or lack of a stance I should say isn't helping the problem and the Chattanooga incident is a direct cause of such relaxed stances. Not saying it could have prevented Chattanooga but having that family on a watch list sure would of helped. When you have questions about an affiliation with a terrorist group and then ease up on the ones you have questions about doesn't do the national security any good. I will simply ask this, why has there been 21 attacks against our military (or something like that) under him while hardly any under the previous adminstration?

July 20, 201511 yr I hope they allow the soldiers to carry. That said, I'm not convinced it would have been stopped if they were armed. Listening to the events in detail, the four he killed at the 2nd site were killed while the gunman was being pursued and in gun battle with Chattanooga Police. I think it's a step in the right direction for the future to repeal the ban from '92-'93 for military sites and places but I can't say it would have been totally different in this event because the law enforcement was upon him by the time he got to the site where he killed the marines. Zero chance this guy walks in there shooting if he knows those 4 are armed. Um...NO. People have walked into police stations and started shooting, they KNOW the police are armed. Terrorist open fire on our soldiers in other countries inside of their camps KNOWING that they are armed. I have ZERO problems with at least having an armed soldier at the door/gate, but just having an armed person will not stop 100% of these types of attacks. It would probably stop them sooner and it would in all likelihood save lives, but it won't stop them. People who walk into police stations shooting are looking to commit suicide, nothing more. You will never stop that not matter what. Your analogy about terrorist opening fire on our soldiers in other countries just isn't the same thing. Again, zero chance this guy walks into a place with 4 marines he knows are armed and starts shooting.

Most of these terrorist are looking to commit suicide anyway to get their virgins that are waiting on them, knowing they may die won't stop them. Police officers are ambushed in this country every year by people with motives other than suicide. If armed soldiers being present would mean zero attacks then there would never have been a terrorist attack in Israel. Will some attacks be stopped, I think absolutely so...but to say there would be zero attacks is a fantasy.
July 20, 201511 yr On here, on Facebook, on any board you will find people that say the President and his administration are culpable in shootings like we had in Chattanooga last week. If he's culpable then that means he can do something to help minimize these shootings. What can he and his administration do to stop these shootings? We have to start playing offense. Defense (and I am sure some secret offense) are not getting the job done. I started a thread on this almost a year ago and here we are much worse off with a more powerful ISIS because the President refuses to go all in. http://bluegrasspreps.com/controversial-issues/when-we-going-283501.html
July 20, 201511 yr Look America as a free society is full of "Soft Targets". The fact that a recruiting station was hit and another military installation that was a "Soft Target" is horrible. But just take a minute and think about how many soft targets there are out there...Almost every school and school bus, most churches, stores, bars, putt putt golf courses, theaters, zoos, crowds leaving a sporting event...there are thousands and thousands of places that could be hit in the exact same manner. My prayer is that none of those become a reality.
July 20, 201511 yr Call terrorism, terrorism and be done with it. He can't do anything, just call it what it is and move on.

Sorry but can't compare what happens in Israel to this. There's so much history and craziness there nothing is stopping that from happening. If this guy turns out to be some trained ISIS or Al Qaeda operative then I will re-think my position.

War is ugly, people die, terrorist, innocents, children, .........they die in war. We, the American People, do not have the stomach for war or we let the minority tell us how evil we are. You go to war to eliminate the enemy or pound them into submission, not to win hearts and minds. See - Japan and Germany compared to North Korea and Vietnam. The main differences was media was not imbedded and we fought to win.......
