July 16, 201511 yr The thing is, Jesse and Al are largely just old war horses whose time has past. I don't really know of anyone with a brain who takes them seriously anymore. But among certain segments of the white population — the Fox News crowd — they are somehow seen as the authoritative, singular voices for all things black, and that galls the hell out of the Fox News crowd. The liberal media exacerbates this problem by making sure and calling on those guys for comments about any and all black-related incident nationwide, when it should be seeking out different people. You blame Fox News yet it was one of those liberal media outlets gave Sharpton his own TV show. Sounds to me like he blamed Fox and the liberal media. Seems fair enough. I'm going to have to disagree. Everyone time there is a major incident involving a black citizen they allow Al or Jesse to take center stage. A liberal outlet gave Al his own show. None of that is on fox news. Thanks for ignoring the last part of my post, even after 75center and Corleone both acknowledged it. But anyway …
July 16, 201511 yr I have made my stance clear in a previous post: "My perspective, so that it is clear for you and others, is not that wealth doesn't create privledge. It is that racial privledge exists and must be addressed as a part of conquering any racial divide we hope to bridge in this country. It is a primary factor and, in not recognizing it as such, you are complicit in the issue." To assume that there is one magic bullet to conquering racial divide in our country is as naive as denying the issues that are staring you in the face. There are nuances, as you have mentioned in numerous posts, including the one I am replying to. The approach must be a balanced one, but one that must include building trust through sharing perspectives. I will agree there is white privilege if you will agree a black person's (as is the case with any other race) best course is to take personal and individual responsibility for their own success. Fair enough?
July 16, 201511 yr Thanks for ignoring the last part of my post, even after 75center and Corleone both acknowledged it. But anyway … So the families call them and both Fox and the liberal media prop them up. I'm still confused by your first point. I'll believe they aren't a major voice when the families quit calling them.

None of that is on fox news. When I see a liberal black getting center stage face time to advance his/her agenda on the fair and balanced Fox News, in the words of Fred Sanford, "This is the big one, Elizabeth! I'm coming to join you"!

July 16, 201511 yr Then you must not watch Fox News very much.. They have liberals of all races on there most every day.... Gotta have somebody for Hannity and O'Reilly to shout over.

July 16, 201511 yr Well, you got me there. So if you don't watch it how are you ever going to see it?
July 16, 201511 yr Gotta have somebody for Hannity and O'Reilly to shout over. Dude you are so out of touch on this subject, it's like you haven't turned the TV on in 8 years :lol2: Fox news is much more than talking head shows on at night. I watch CNN and Fox back and forth most of the day and both are doing a pretty good job on their actual newscast of having very diverse voices on their programs. Just this morning there was an old white guy and a young black woman arguing back and forth about the Presidents handling of the Iranian prisoners on Fox. Oh and before you jump to any conclusions about that, the old white guy was the one defending the Presidents lack of action and the young lady was the one tearing into him.
July 17, 201511 yr A white person saying the black perspective is invalid IS THE PROBLEM. I keep hoping we'll get there. I doubt that feeling more and more every day... There are those who want to confront the facts that personal responsibility, development and valuing those things that those people who get ahead in society value are keys to success. And, these people are WILLING and WANTING to talk about how we can enable these qualities. Then there are those who just want to blame and these people just want to enable this quality. Pick your side!!

July 17, 201511 yr Is this the thread where we've had 400 posts on false dichotomies? :lol2: OK...one for the latter. Thanks...anyone else? Just kidding btw to illustrate the point.
July 17, 201511 yr Is this the thread where we've had 400 posts on false dichotomies? :lol2: It's not my fault a certain poster doesn't understand the concept and when an idea is based off one I don't let it slide.
July 19, 201511 yr Following that thought...it is interesting to me to see many of those who make their money off of sports be so "sensitive" to the plight of minorities...while once the players playing days are over, or the person falls on hard time, these same people turn their backs on them. Not saying that's the case here, but I understand it would be bad for business to have an honest discussion about it. Explain to me what you mean when you say "turn their backs on them" i dont think it is different from any white athlete who retires. Today the more successful an athlete is between the lines the better chance he has at being successful after retirement when it comes to working in the profession no matter what color they are.
