Several Kentucky county clerks defy same-sex marriage ruling.

Not disputing it may become a campaign issue, but that is not really an issue to evaluate the merits of those running, is it? "Vote for me because I will attempt to obstruct the law." They don't make policy, only enforce it. This would be like a County Sheriff running on the platform that they will not enforce speeding tickets because they don't believe they should exist.

People will use anything to get into elected office. When I was younger, a guy ran for constable in my area and his campaign centered around the fact that he kept making sure everyone knew that he was pro-Bible and anti-abortion. Needless to say, he overwhelmingly won over the retired law enforcement officer who was worlds more qualified than a laid off cable installer.

In rural America, if it doesn't make sense to be part of the job but still lets everyone know you are a conservative Christian, people will use it to get votes.

Edit: Wasn't there a sheriff someone in the southwest several years ago who openly talked about how he wasn't going to enforce federal gun laws or anything like that? I might have some of the details wrong, but I seem to remember a local official being very open about his disdain for gun laws and that he ultimately wouldn't enforce them because he found them to be unconstitutional or something like that.

The "Hunter S. Thompson for Sheriff" campaign ran on similar platforms infused with a law-breaking spirit.

Drove by the court house in Rowan County today. Saw some picketers out with signs that read: "Honk for equal access"

There was a slight drizzle at the time and a handful of picketers--mostly female. I'd say about five picketers, definitely less than ten.

I'm not drawing any conclusion from this. Just reporting what I saw in case someone may be interested.

Or perhaps like certain cities refusing to enforce and jail illegal immigrants that are found?

One is denying American Citizens freedom and the other is a city saying "we don't have the money to chase these people."

Both are defying the law. Period.

In the case of San Francisco, they denied a young lady her freedom, her life.

I disagree, he had an obligation to appeal the decision, he opted not to and made some very nice tears for the camera when he opted not to base on his beliefs as well as costing the state money when they had to hire outside council. He's no different then the people you now want fired.

Turns out, the AG office in KY has the discretion to pursue action, not an obligation. Who knew?

^ I'd think there would be significantly more if it wasn't summer.

Why? Who would lead this?

I'm confused RP, more marching for gay marriage or for the clerks in question?
