On that Todd note..that 2003 Etown team may be the most under the radar team in Kentucky History for talent.

 

They had three players go on to start in the SEC and earn All-SEC honors in some compacity:

Zipp Duncan- Kentucky

Chris Todd- Auburn

Brandon Deaderick- Alabama

 

They also had a WR named French who was offered by Marshall but never qualified academically.

 

Brandon Deaderick went on to excel at Alabama and play considerably minutes and contribute in the NFL.

 

I remember how intimidating those 3 E-town players looked when they came out for the coin toss in a regional final against Corbin. They were all 6'5" or taller and dwarfed the Redhound captains, but it was also their last game as high school players...

Corbin absolutely worked Etown... was quite surprising.

I don't remember Doug being a QB, he was a safety/db, and I do not remember if he played offense.

My homer list would put Pat Towels at #5 making a HHS back to back to back list. I believe only HHS QB to win three SC's as the starter.

 

Would like to put Paul Hornung somewhere on the list but don't see how.

I was always told that Coach Mike Murphy was an outstanding QB for Holmes, later played at UC and the Cleveland Browns. It was way before my time, but if he played like he coached, I'm sure he was a star!

How about Roger Walz of Highlands?

 

I was talking to a real old man today. He was telling me that Roger was a three year starter at QB for the Birds. He won back to back state titles in 1960 and 1961. He told me Roger played for UC and UK during his college years. He couldn't remember if he went pro or not. Starred at basketball and baseball also.

 

He also told me of Roger getting kicked out of a game for retaliating against the other teams third string player. Highlands didn't have a back up QB at that time so they had a RB handing the ball off the rest of the game without a pass.

Actually, Hornung played QB in high school and College. He was even drafted in the NFL as a QB, that is why he was allowed to wear number 5 as a RB, he was originally listed as a QB.

Don't forget about his kicking accomplishments as well. On top of All-Pro and leading the league in scoring several times. Scoring record eventually broke by LaDainian Tomlinson. WOW!!!!

Pretty solid accomplishments for a QB from old Louisville Flaget. One of many that came from that school that accomplished so much. You could throw Oscar Brohm into the discussion!

Actually Boyle had sprung on the scene in '96 when Brad Johnson at QB and Neal Brown led the Rebels to the AA semi finals n lost a heart breaker at Breathitt in the middle of their streak.

 

I think what ATL is trying to say is no one remembers that. Everyone remembers that impressive run from 98-04 where they went to 6 straight shampionships, winning 5 straight. Correct me if I'm wrong ATL.
