Did we ever establish that he was a QB in High School? I know he was at ND

 

I've got a few really nice year book pictures for you, Hatz. Having a hard time working the dang phone. Few nice pictures of Paul running the option at old Flaget. Also have one of Bear Bryant speaking at the banquet that year. I'll try to figure out how to load them from my phone.

Top ten? I don't know. My most impressive is Beau Hoge. Based on the CC of Miami, FL game and the state final game.

He was still great in college. It was the pros where he fizzled out.

 

He was great until that Thursday night at Rutgers. After that, he seemed exposed, and leveled or even dropped off.

He was definitely a QB in High School, College and was drafted as a QB in the NFL. He only moved to RB after he was drafted by the Packers.

Can you name any of Brohm's supporting cast?

 

To be fair I feel as though you can make an argument for Simms, Couch or Brohm on this list. The thing is which level do ou look at? High School (advantage Brohm), College (probably a wash between the 3), Pro (advantage Simms, no question).

 

I definitely think that any of these 3 could be placed as #1 . It just depends on where you emphasize their performance and at what level. I sure as heck wouldn't object to Simms being 1 on this list.

That is my point. Simms being #8 out of 10 on the list is a joke. It just seems it has been a very heavy Louisville lean which doesn't make much sense to me. Michael Bush making the list is a joke and a slap in the face to someone like Simms. Seriously, how is he even on the list? It is simply because without him on the list it makes the so called "greatest game ever played" in the state feel a little shallow. I would also argue that Couch not only had a better college career than Brohm but a much better Pro career playing for what was actually a expansion team with a horrible O-Line.

 

I also agree that Paul Hornung should be put on the list, especially if you are putting someone who never played QB after HS like Michael Bush. Hornung was probably one of the best Football Players ever to play at any level from the state of KY. He did play QB in HS and we all know the history he had at ND.

 

Again, make this list the best KY High School QB's and then it is a little closer to what it should be (but you still need to put Hornung on the list), but making it the best QB's from KY, well I think it is a swing and a miss.

I feel like your top 3 are all pretty solid and well deserving. Couch put up astronomical numbers against a bunch of tomato cans but to my knowledge, never even made a state championship game, which I guess makes his stats that much more unbelievable. Regardless, he's a lock at #2 and is definitely behind Brian Brohm.

 

While I get that Duggins, Guidugli and Smith may have gotten to play in college, the three seasons Travis Wright had at Trinity are maybe the best three seasons anyone on this list has had in high school. While he isn't the 6-4 220 pound prototype passer, he went 51-2 as a starter against hands-down the most difficult schedule ever assembled and was named a 2nd team All-American in 2011. He led the 2011 team to the #1 ranking by several publications and had the Shamrocks nationally ranked in all three of his varsity seasons. He also is third all-time in completion percentage, is sixth and tenth all-time in completion percentage for a season, ninth in career passing yards, and eighth in consecutive games with a passing TD.

 

And I understand that he had some pretty talented kids around him (Quick, Dawkins, Bishop, Radcliff) and a solid offensive line, but for a kid to start as a sophomore at an institution like Trinity and then put up those numbers against championship caliber schools from Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Nashville is nothing short of incredible. He threw well on the run, in the pocket and his poise is among the best you'll ever see. He could throw the deep ball and very rarely, if ever, turned the ball over. He made average wide receivers into all-staters and helped make James Quick the best football player in the state's rich history.

 

But perhaps above all, Wright leading the Rocks to a 6-0 record and 215-40 scoring margin in one of the biggest rivalries in high school sports in the country should easily put him among these fine players. He played his best games in the toughest scenarios and should definitely be mentioned among the best to ever play in our state.

Also, why is Corey Robinson not on this list? He was pretty stellar too and has done well at Troy, i believe.

How well do you think just about any good QB in HS would have done if they played for trinity? You may want to discount the talent around the QB's but you really can't do that. Trinity is successful not because of their QB's but their QB's are successful because of Trinity. Trinity's system, coaches, players etc. is what makes Trinity so good. The reason I brought up Drew Barker is because he wasn't on the list at all but I am convinced Trinity would have won as many titles in his 4 year span with him as their QB as they did without him as their QB.

Drew Barker most likely wouldn't have played at Trinity. He would have sat behind Travis and Reggie Bonnafon. Not A very good example to me. To my knowledge, Drew hasn't and isn't expected to see the field yet - and you just compared him to a guy that beat Notre Dame on the road last year as a true Freshman. Trust me, we have as many great players as anyone in the state...it isn't ALL about the coaches. We are BLESSED with the best coaches in this area...maybe some of the best in the Nation. But many of our 2nd and 3rd string guys that never see the field could start for a number of teams in Louisville. I'm talking about a group of kids that get very little to no credit...except from the coaches and teammates that regularly praise them because of what they do from a scout team perspective. Think I took that way to personal Hellbird. Not trying to pick a fight. I really do see your point.

Agreed and that is the whole point. Highlands and Trinity are very similar in many ways. They get the players and make everyone look better.

Cool...sorry for the misinterpretation. I took your comment about "the system is more of the reason for success than the QB playing" the wrong way. The system with Reggie in it didn't turn out all that great 2 years ago when T went 6-6 and lost to Male in the playoffs. After reading your post, I just assumed you were saying T must have had a bunch of scrubs around Reggie and in the system that year. I was wrong to assume.

Truth be told I was not sure if he played QB in HS..knew he was a legendary RB at College and Pro.
