Did some checking and in the same 60 year period Highlands has 635 wins or 10.6 per year. You have to remember many of those early seasons only had a limited number of games, sometimes half of what is possible these days.

The only difference between the two for me is that Trinity has had natural foes on a year in and year out basis (St. X, Male, Manual) that could go toe to toe with them depth and talent wise and Highlands most years just hasn't faced the same level of competition in the playoffs that Trinity has.

 

Just want to point out that Highlands did play up in class for many years trying to find that competition.

I'm glad you supplied the context I hadn't considered. I hate misleading statistics, and wouldn't want to use any myself.

HHS has faced big competition and won some titles where their tradition was greater than their talent. I think they've faced some stiff competition.

I agree with that to an extent. Highlands does play up in class though and while they don't schedule some of the national powers that Trinity does, however they do play much larger schools than they are whenever possible and hold their own against them. I don't think that Highlands could consistently play with Trinity, due to the enrollment difference. But in my opinion, Highlands with 100 years of success, as a small to medium size school, playing up in class, deserves as much recognition as a school that is much larger playing in their khsaa enrollment classification.

 

Before any of the Trinity faithful get upset, I do want to say that they go out of their way to schedule the best of the best. That's where most of their losses come from, but you gotta give them credit for that since they can't play up in class in this state.

Not a big deal as I don't think it was misleading. No one has more respect than I for Trinity and I have no argument with anyone who has them at the top of the list.

Beechwood has to be in the top 5. Beechwood has 11 state championships. I know some think of Beechwood as not having recent success. However, in the past 15 years, Beechwood has played in the state championship game 5 times, has won 3 titles and has been in the state semifinals or better 10 of the past 15 years.

Sounds just like Danville, with the exception of the 10 semifinal games..close, but not 10. I think maybe 8?

 

Huge fan of Mayfield, but Danville is something like 9-1 all time vs Mayfield & all of those came in either state championship games in the late 80's, early 90s or in state semifinal games in the early 2000's.

 

No question that Mayfield has been more relevant the last 7-8 years (seperate classes nonetheless). We could talk "ifs" all day in favor of both schools, but I'm not sure if the over all boys enrollment difference is at 50.

I was way off.

 

Dead even. 13-14 boys enrollment for both Mayfield and Danville was 241. Others can take the time to go back and look, but here is guessing it's been neck and neck in that department since 6 classes.

Should Mayfield be in over Beechwood? Should Mayfield even be in the Top 5 at all?

 

The Cards have played in the past 6 title games and have won 3 in a row and 4 of those years the Cards took out BW to get there. Though the latest 10 year run or so far this decade, the Cards are the most successful team in the state with a 71-4 mark and have the best winning percentage this decade so far at 94.7%. Even without the recent title success the Cards have the 3rd most wins all time in Kentucky and rank 5TH nationally in all time wins. IMO the Cards are firmly a Kentucky Blue Blood and are easily in this lists.

I think because most of those Ads-Cards games were very close where MF has handily won all but 1 of the BW games makes it seem different though I can assure all that MF fans still feel the sting of the Mighty Ads Anchor

You're right , no way does Elder, Moeller or Colerain matchup as regular season competition.
