Well, I don't know about the whole intelligent part, but I'll take that anytime it comes my way. :lol2: However, I'm usually not one that's afraid of telling how I feel, wrong or right.

In short, she was probably hanging around a long time, the officer decided to take in her custody, and he was actually being gentle (a male perp would have been manhandled) but the problem is when a women resists when you are trying not to hurt them it looks really bad.

I'd say there is some truth to that for sure. I'd just like to know what she was actually doing, which, from the video I've seen was just the officer taking her to the ground. If she was trying to act violent, young lady or not, you don't do that towards an officer & you just have to learn the hard way. If she was merely screaming obscenities, then...ehhh, I don't know, tough call. With your extensive background in law enforcement, what say you?

 

Similarly, I have some friends who work at a juvenile youth detention center here in the state & I've heard them talk about the same thing when having to restrain smaller residents who are becoming threats to harm others, themselves and/or destruction of property(young men at that). Dealing with the lightweights always looks worse, when all reality, you are probably doing all you can to drive the point home of "Don't ____ with me", all while trying everything in your power not to hurt them.

I can't be certain but if you go back and watch the pasted together videos that made up the bulk of the news reports she appears in more than one of them (but again I am not certain it is the same person). So it appears (speculating) that she was one of the most flagrant offenders in terms of failing to disperse and in police work you make an example out of the flagrant offenders to send a strong message to the rest of the mob.

Cop had responded to 2 suicide calls prior to this circus. One of them was apearantly rather gruesome. Girl has a lawyer doing a press release right now. Fact finding before deciding to press charges. Says she was invited to the party. Was going to leave as she had been asked by the officer, but wanted her bag. Says she did nothing wrong. Press release going on right now.

Never done it. Couldn't imagine, and totally understand.

 

Summer spring break my senior year of high school. We were at PCB & the car in front of us, had county plates where I have some family. Drunkenly, I get out of my car (wasn't driving) just to see if if by chance they were some girls that I knew.

 

Sure enough...there was a couple in there that I did. Talking for what couldn't have been 30 seconds, right before I was about to get in their car (on the strip), one of the policemen on a bike grabs me and puts me in handcuffs. He says he had told me a couple of times to get out of the road (I don't remember it; nor was I in the state to know whether he did or not).....he ends up putting me in handcuffs, scared the dog crap out of me. Lesson learned. Not ONCE did I ever think about being vulgar to him, let alone being aggressive. I was literally scared you know what "less".

Looks like the department is reviewing this and may press charges. I think this is enough. His police days are already over. Why press charges?

 

Also the race card is being played. I just don't see that in this case. The cop made a mistake. He has said so himself. This had nothing to do with race.

So if you're the police chief of McKinney you'd have defended this officer's actions in a public statement and not fired him?

I saw another video snippet where she was involved in a fight with what looked like a white woman or girl; I'm not sure. I'll see if I can find it and post.

I honestly don't know...wish I could give you a better answer but I don't know.

 

Based on my own past experiences...I nearly got fired (put on final level of discipline) because I stood up for a co-worker and had their back...so I guess my default position is that I would tend to back my guy until there was no way to back him any longer. If evidence ended up strong against him I'd do what had to be done...as I did also in the past.

 

Guru made a good point on the reasoning for the behavior displayed by the officer...based on what G described I think I'd have his back for now, based on what we knew at the time.
