I am so disappointed that Highlands is now involved with the Shootout.

How are teams compensated for this? Does each team , say Cooper and HHS, get the same money as a guarantee and then the promoters keep all of the revenue?

 

I seem to remember Boone passing on the opportunity to open with Conner at Nippert because they didn't want to give up the home game proceeds.

 

So, I guess I'm asking if the visiting team gets anything beyond what they would normally get when they play a road game?

We are bascially saying the same thing, outside the players there is no special meaning with the game.

Cross town doesn't have to mean cross state lines.

 

Crosstown shoot out is UC and Xavier which are 2 schools in the same city.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think CovCath vs. St. Xavier will be the first game in the renovated Nippert. That, I would think, is a fairly big deal. I'm guessing that was one of the reasons those two schools that travel well were chosen (like Highlands and many others, not putting those two above others, just in the mix of a few schools that pretty much guarantee you a big crowd). Should be a big crowd and a nice environment to see the new (sort of) building.

CCH vs St. X at Nippert is what the Showdown should be. HHS @ Cooper isn't. How much money do the off-site teams pocket? Would the schools participate if the deal wasn't good for them?

Here are my thoughts:

 

I've got a couple beefs with the event...one being kind of semantics I suppose. The "semantics" problem is that this is tagged as a "Crosstown Showdown", and when you're talking crosstown, including teams like Cathedral (112 miles from Cincinnati), Carmel (121 miles from Cincinnati), and Warren Central (105 miles from Cincinnati), then the event is obviously not crosstown. When they have over 100 football programs to choose from in Greater Cincinnati, is it really that tough to keep the teams from across "town"? Semantics? Yes. Does it still bug me? Yes.

 

My other beef is the fact that there are games that are included in the event that are allegedly billed as being something special, that just aren't - take the last couple years of Cov Cath versus Dixie Heights. Game was held at the competing teams' home fields, just as they would have been otherwise, but the admission price is upped and a cut of the admission price is given to the event organizers. I call bull on that being anything special, and yes, it ticks me off that the event organizers were getting a cut of a game that would most definitely have taken place anyway. Are the competing schools to be included in the blame there as well as the event organizers? Absolutely.

 

I have no problem with the Skyline Crosstown Showdown having a handful of teams compete at Nippert or at Paul Brown or whatever and calling it a "bowl" or whatever they want to bill it as. If the event organizers want to try to put together matchups like Cov Cath vs. Cincy St. X, or Beechwood vs. Mt. Healthy - teams that don't necessarily go looking for each other when they're assembling their year to year schedules - then I say that's great. Definitely would hold my interest. However, when I look at the schedule for the Showdown and see them trying to make it out that the Ryle vs. Boone County game being played at Ryle is some kind of special thing that they helped put together and should be able to add 40% onto the ticket price, then I call bull. I don't like that at all.

What's special about Highlands playing Cooper?

 

Two final four teams in their respective classes might make a very good game.

Also Boone County vs Ryle is another Skyline game.
