Other than the games in Red, why are ALL the other games even involved. I know, because the promoter is making a mountain of money off these schools and kids. I find it hard to believe all the other schools are making that much more from garentees if anything extra. Shame on the schools. for agreeing. Again, so disappointed in Highlands for agreeing.

What's to be grateful for? Should they be grateful to pay $10 for a game that would otherwise be played in the exact same location and only cost $5 for admission? I was ungrateful the last two years when Cov Cath and Dixie were playing at their home fields as part of the Showdown.

 

Let me ask you: If the Pioneers were playing Campbell County at Campbell County, would you rather pay $5 to get into the game, or $10 so the game can be listed on the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown website and some event organizer can get a stack of money? Or how about this...if you were buying gas, would you rather pay $2.50 a gallon, or $5.00?

Schedule says it all, the event is totally over-saturated at this point and has been for a few years. Without pinpointing match ups, some of these games won't even be a big deal to the home team despite the crosstown tag.

 

I'd have zero problem with the watering down of the event if it somehow showcased more teams and players in a recognizable way, but it does not. It gouges fans of the schools for profit.

As is why I said "Playing that game in the venue is the only thing that would be semi interesting for the players" Outside the players the game really has nothing special going for it. That was the point I was making. If it was ST X playing CCH at CCH's field, would it be that interesting of a game outside the players getting to say they played against St X?

 

On venue and opponent, yes it matters. When Highlands hosted Moeller, X, and Elder their was certainly a buzz around the school and town that is seldom there (even for CCH lately).

I agree with you and many that this has become so saturated that it simply seems like a money grab.

 

There is no rhyme or reason behind how this is set up. It would be one thing if it was set up to have rivals play against eachother or have district games etc. where the games meant something, but it's a mish mosh of games that have nothing to do with other games how they are set up. You have a Ryle vs Boone Co. which is a rivalry but then you have a Indianapolis Cathedral vs Moeller which is, well, no history.

 

If you are going to do something like this then make the games somewhat meaningful. There are so many teams involved and spread out over such a large area that this entire thing comes across as a meaningless way to make money. Even if they just made it a "Kickoff to the Season" and had this on the 1st week of games to celebrate the start of the season would even have more meaning than what it is now where it is played over couple weeks.

 

What they should do to make a true showcase is hold all the games at PBS over a weekend, that would be pretty cool. They have so many teams now they can't even do something like that. Another reason they probably don't do that is the promoters wouldn't make as much money because they'd have to pay to play at PBS.

I have to disagree. Beechwood is not on this year's schedule for the first time in quite a while and I am disappointed. It is fun going to play a game on a college campus. Beechwood has played local teams like Dixie and they have played teams they almost surely would not have played without this event like Lima OH. Either way the game is a lot of fun and a different experience for the kids. That is worth a few extra dollars.

 

I will agree about the games that are played at the high schools against a regular opponent. I don't understand why those games are part of this event other than a good excuse to raise ticket prices and make more money.
