  1. I think Highlands gets on the winning track this week. I do not know what Campbell has this year, but I think the Birds will be hungry for a win and will be harder to beat.
  2. I think Cooper takes this one but if they rest on their accomplishment of beating Highlands,, they may find themselves in a dog fight.
  3. I had heard all of the drama over the loss to Cooper but I did not really understand until I read the entire thread. What happened to anyone can lose on any given day. I think a lot of people may have taken Cooper too lightly and maybe Highlands had an off night. However,, there are several more weeks of football left. However,, with over 21,000 views,, this is certainly going to be discussed for a while. Good luck to both programs the rest of the year!!
  4. I am sure that strategies are being shared daily at all levels of the game. That is why the game of football continues to evolve and I think that is healthy for the game. The point I was trying to make was that if he did not have an offense that could move the ball or a defense that could stop the other teams progress,, he would lose. Green Bay ran the Sweep to perfection,, you knew it was coming but they had the talent to make sure it was executed to perfection. Same way with the West Coast Offense in its "hay day",, a lot of people were trying to employ several aspects of that style of offense,, and then there is the "wildcat". Yet,, it was the teams talent in all aspects of the game that decided whether it came away with a win or loss. All this coach is doing is giving themselves another opportunity to move the ball,, but if they did not have talent,, weather they got ten chances or twenty,,, it would not matter. My example would be if Grant County played Trinity,, and used the same philosophy,, I think it would be a huge defeat,,,not because of the type kick off was used or if they punted the ball. It would be because there is a difference in the talent being used.
  5. I would argue that if he has won a couple of state titles,, it is due to what is happening after the kickoff. You do not win titles without talent. I would hazard to say that if he was utilizing the same philosophy and did not win,, not only would we not be talking about him,, but he would be unemployed. I think the true test to his strategy would be to see what his won/loss record was before he adopted this approach to the game. All that being said,, it is working for him,, so there is really no compelling reason for him to change.
  6. This game should let both teams know a lot about themselves. I think Scott wins,, their size and power may be too much for NCC. I have not heard anything about how either team looked in their scrimmages this year. However, if Scott has updated their offense to compliment their power running game,, they will be hard to beat. They should make a lot of noise this year.
  7. One year should make this team a little better,, maturity and experience helps. However,, I have not heard who Conner has scrimmaged or if they have shown improvement over last year. Any word on how they have looked other than the intra-squad scrimmage mentioned in this thread?
  8. I think this game is going to be closer than what people think. Highlands my end up winning but it will be a dogfight. I think the game will be decided by less than a touchdown.
  9. Sounds like Ryle will be hard to contain this year,, more than the one dimensional teams of the past. Its going to be a good competitive year for NKY football
  10. I think SK is the team to beat this year in 6A for the NKY area,, but until that actually turns into state championships,, they will not be considered "elite". Having winning seasons is good,, but the reason Highlands is considered "elite" are the championships that they collect year after year.
  11. Pretty interesting thread. I am still pretty new to BGP but it seems the passions around each team is already in regular season form. I can't wait until the season actually starts,, sounds like it is going to be a good year with quite a few competitive games for NKY football
  12. He seems a little undersized to have an impact stepping up to 6A ball. Does he make up for his lack of size with speed. He also seems to be a good open field tackler. Is there a plan for Cooper to have turf anytime soon?
  13. Two final four teams in their respective classes might make a very good game.
  14. Nicely said,,, I think it would have been a nice district with HHS, Cov Cath, and Cooper. I wish them the best in 6A
  15. Not really sure what started the discussion but you would have to agree that there is a difference between 6A and 1A. If I can pick my best 11 from 100 boys versus picking my best 11 from 40,,, I think I could have better success since my talent pool is larger. As a result,, the teams you would be playing against would be better overall. Just my opinion
  16. My understanding is Cooper was down several starters that game. I am not sure the result would have been any different,, but I would think SK would not have been as dominant if Cooper was at full strength. I think if SK is going to judge this years game based on last years performance,, they may be in for somewhat of a surprise.
  17. I thought I read on another thread that Cooper had to move up because of enrollment. Is this not the case? If not, I have to agree that it was a wrong move to go up to 6A. They were having success at the 5A level.
  18. Getting to compete for a position on that level is a great accomplishment. It is great to see a kid from this area doing so well. I wish all the best and much success.
  19. If it is the situation I am thinking of,, it was my understanding that he could switch but would have to sit out one year for athletics. With him being a senior,, that was the reason of the return to the original school.
  20. This is not true,,, there are certain situations as to where a child can switch schools. Most moves have to be approved by the Dean of Students. However,, Boone County does not have open enrollment
  21. If this is true,, it is good for the entire area for scouts to be coming to see him. I would love to see what the kid from SK will get. I have not seen this kid (Morgan) play but the Racke kid at SK is also a legitimate D1 prospect
  22. I hear the Mcgregor kid at Ryle is pretty fast, can anyone confirm that?
  23. I disagree,,, times do account for something but it is a players' body of work that will get him to the next level. IMO a players' ability to be an impact in game situations is key. What are his stats over time and is it consistent year over year. Its true you can't coach speed or size,, but just because you have it does not mean it will necessarily transfer to being and impact player on the field. With that being said, if it comes down to who gets the offer,, all things being equal,,you go with the bigger faster kid.
  24. IMO,, I think you give him a year to adjust to high school ball. Even though he may be a big kid,, he would still be 14 years old. Going against other linemen that are years older and stronger would not help his development as a player long term. If Cooper does not have an immediate need to be filled,, let him get a little bigger and stronger. It will be like letting a player "red shirt" his first year in college.
