Trying to drive off when an officer is reaching into your vehicle is not smart, hence the resisting arrest. Sitting in an empty parking lot with your car running/lights on at 2:30am is not smart either. Especially if you are hammered and have weed on you. My guess is he was waiting for some company at that point.

Unbelievable. Continues to amaze me the lengths people in positions with visibility will go to destroy themselves/their lives. Feel bad for the city, the school, the team, and most of all, his family.

 

Have to wonder how much the effect of his father's passing last year has had him reeling since. It took me 9 years to get over the deep searing grief of my father's tragic passing. In those 9 years, I have a laundry list of ways I acted like a fool beacuse I was seeking to escape. Depression is a massive, all encompassing horrible coat of armor that blinds you. Is this the case here?

 

Regardless, it's a shame for everyone involved, especially the good people of Newport.

Good call, guru, hope - no matter what is going on - that he eventually finds a way to take a good, long hard look in the mirror, do some evaluation and fix himself. Clearly the man has a lot to offer both on and off the field..

So we hope this guy comes out on the other side of this ok. Damn good thing one of his kids didn't squirt pee on anyone, we'd have wanted him hanged in the public square.

At least he owned it and didn't offer up an excuses. Hope he gets it together.

 

Newport High School head coach apologizes, promises 'to make better choices in the future' - Story

 

"I want to take this opportunity to apologize to my wife, my children, my players, our students, the school administration, and the Newport community for the poor judgment I exercised on Friday," Matt Schmitz said in statement released to the media. "I am embarrassed about my actions and I realize I will face the consequences for those actions."

 

"I also recognize that, as a coach and school administrator, I am expected to lead by example and that I failed miserably in fulfilling that obligation," Schmitz said. "I am making no excuses for my actions. What I did was wrong, especially for someone in my position."
