Newport football coach and AD arrested

Not around here.

He's taking it on the chin pretty good. I'm not sure why you can't see that. If this were you or me, this isn't getting reported on the news, and there's a chance our employers never hear about it.

So why wasn't he charged with a DUI? He was behind the wheel.

I'm guessing because he wasn't driving and wasn't on a public street. I don't know what the statute is. I'm not sure what your point is, unless you think they are cutting him a break. What they've charged him with though, is plenty to pretty much end his teaching career for quite some time (if not forever). I guess he could conceivably end up coaching again, but it would be a pretty steep uphill battle and probably be quite some time before he could pass any background check.

So I'm not aloud to ask questions?

Never said that you weren't aloud (or allowed;)) to ask questions. This just along with some of your other posts on the subject make it sound like you think he's getting off easy.

Only if you do it silently.

I see what you did here:laugh:

So we hope this guy comes out on the other side of this ok. Damn good thing one of his kids didn't squirt pee on anyone, we'd have wanted him hanged in the public square.

No doubt........

Ironically Friday was pink slip day, or the day that schools had to notify teachers if they plan to rehire them for next year.

I wonder if he was cut Thursday before the incident.

Pink slip day was not Friday, FYI.

I agree in asking why was he not charged with a DUI? In Kentucky, the law states if you are behind the wheel of a car and the ignition is on you are in control, therefore it absolutely should have been a DUI. A public intoxication? He wasn't walking down the street, where does that charge even come in at?

According to one report I read he was trying to put the car in gear and drive off.

It's hard to find a flattering mugshot.

It's hard to find a flattering mugshot.

I bet you wouldn't look so good at 2:30am after a long night of drinking and weed smoking:-).

The best way to avoid a bad mugshot is to be home by midnight. Nothing good ever happens at 2:30 am, especially on a school night.

Not entirely true. Teachers are held by a higher standard than most occupations. A DUI and/or drug conviction could mean the end of a career. Many other professions would say, get help, get healthy, and come back. I am not so sure that parents and school boards are (or can afford to be) as patient.

As they should be...we place the trust of our children in the hands of educators for most of their formative hours. You go into some professions knowing that the bar is set much higher than for the general population. You violate the standard severely enough, you are out of that profession, no questions necessary. I have no problem with it.

As for the individual, I hope the best for him. Obviously something going on in his life that he ended up where he did. Unfortunate, but not life ending.

Which professions are those other than teacher?

Sure as heck ain't doctor, lawyer, or politician and the control some pretty important stuff: life, freedom, and government.

Dude I'm not saying they don't deserve consequences, but most people can go find another job after a bad decision...not teachers. Education and life's work down the drain.
