Reds @ Pirates (5/5-5/7)

Featured Replies

Votto is just plain stupid. He gets ejected, and also bumped the umpire, knowing the Reds are already playing 2 players short.

I'd love to see that fire and passion out of Jay Bruce

This game is over, turn on something else. Had men on second and third and no outs against Pirates best pitcher and fail to score. Votto does not swing at a fast ball right down the middle and then check swings a tapper back to the mound. Frazier strikes out on a pitch a foot out side and Phillips grounds out. Frazier just cannot put the bat on the ball with a man on third and less than two outs. Reds won' score now. On to Survivor!

Boy was I totally wrong. Leake is really on top of his game. Survivor was good though.

Well the Pirates don't look very good this year

I think the Pirates will eventually be in the cellar in that division below Milwaukee when all is said and done. They make the Reds look like the Cardinals

Reds are 5-0 against the Pirates this year.

1 game over .500 right now

Unfortunately I wasn't watching live when Votto got ejected, but I caught the replay after the game. MLB Tonight (on MLB TV) did a great breakdown of the incident from multiple camera angles.

It was bizarre. Votto was clearly frustrated the entire at-bat. This was his 2nd at-bat, in the 3rd inning. The 1st pitch was a bit low & inside but was called a strike. Votto was visibily upset. Votto swung through a fastball for strike #2 . Again, Votto was visibly frustrated. He swung through another fastball for strike 3. Slams his helmet down, glares over towards the Pirates' dugout & starts yelling at somebody (it was NOT the pitcher, Cole). At that point, he gets ejected (and has no idea).

In the postgame interview, Votto owned up to it & said he needed to be held accountable.

Odd situation all around.

I haven't seen who Votto was yelling at, but it was NOT Cole or the umpire. MLB's different angles clearly showed that.

Presumably somebody from the Pirates' dugout.

2 straight days playing 2 down, 24 straight playing a man down.

Surely even those who think keeping Meso active is good sound decision-making, don't agree with having 2 bench spots wasted, do they?

Fixed that for you.

I have never said I liked Mesoraco being active. But I don't think it is the most ignorant move ever either and I don't automatically call it playing a man down. He is available to pinch hit and there are players on teams that on a nightly basis that take one pinch hit at bat and are done for the night.

The Cozart injury definitely makes carrying Mesoraco more of an issue though. If Cozart is not able to play in the next day or so, the Reds have to make a move.

Tonight could've been an epic disaster with Mesoraco out, Cozart out, and Votto getting ejected in the 3rd...

10-2 against the Pirates and Brewers, 4-11 against everyone else.

Personally I loved seeing that fire in Votto even though it was not a great time for him to get ejected. I have been a huge Mike Leake supporter on here so I am glad to see that people realize we have had a pretty good pitcher in him. Plus him being a ground ball pitcher is great for this team.

Dont look now but if the playoffs ended today the Reds would be in the playoffs lol. So as bad as some complain the Reds are, their are many other teams who have made their fans even angrier lol.

Votto is going to have a nice little 5 game suspension if I had to guess. Wonder if the genius Walt will go ahead and play 3 down the entire time?

Well the good news is going into the AL park so Meso will be DH'ing. Bad news is Meso still can't catch

I'll be shocked if it's 5 days. My guess would be 3 games, Votto will appeal, and it will be reduced to 2 games.
