Over the last 3 years there have been 3 clear favorites going into the regional tournament. Of the 3, only 1 won it or even made it to the championship. So goes a 1 and out tourney!

 

I say this every year ... baseball is the most unpredictable sport to try and pick tournament winners in.

Does anyone know where the District 35 is being held? Of the 4 teams only Cov Cath has a field, and it's not their turn. Thomas More? Freedom?

What I mean is that the Bird's # 3 and #4 are most likely a step above the rest of the fields' #3 and #4 . Their #1 and #2 against one of the other top teams 1&2's are more evenly matched, so it will come down to which team can pull some hits together and who has the best defensive game.

I know there is a lot of talk on how deep their pitching staff is, but I think Highlands success has been due to some strong bats. Can someone's ace quiet them ?, who knows. Thats why they play the game.

 

I think I seen that the Bird's are undefeated against local talent. How many of the top 10 in NKY have they played and have any of the games been against the others Ace?

 

The Birds lost to Ruwe of CCH last Saturday (assume he is CCH's No. 1). Assuming Purnell is Boone County's ace, Highlands beat them last night 12-2 with their #4 starter. So the Birds have faced their share of "aces"

I'm hoping for a Dixie/Highlands matchup. It's about time for the birds to donate a game to the Colonels, after Dixie has gift wrapped wins for them in 2 of the last 3 regional tournaments

I think it is wide open. With the right draw and a little luck, I can make a case for 5 teams to win the Regional.

I think St. Henry will beat Ludlow. I have not seen them play, but I have heard that they are coached very well. As for the 9th region winner, I think anybody could win it. I don't think there is a favorite, because everybody has shown us some vulnerability.

If they get past that, their #2 (likely Raisor) could have a slight advantage against someone else's #2 . If they get to the final, they could have depth of Doty, Bunning, Martin & Noe to throw at whoever their opponent has left.

 

Additional advantage of depth is Baioni could use quick hook if any of the regulars "doesn't have his best stuff" in a given game.

Some consider Raisor as the top pitcher in the 9th. If he's even in that debate isn't saying him as a #2 having a "slight advantage" over some other team's #2 underselling it a bit?
