Is Jeb Bush electable?

Featured Replies

Would depend I guess on what you wanted to get done. I'd be okay with a ticket of Clinton/ Bush or Bush/Clinton as long as Clinton got to pick the Supreme Court nominees. :) That's what I want- at least one more liberal SC justice.

I'd like to see one that just interprets the law instead of putting their political agenda in on every vote. Someone that makes both sides of the political spectrum mad, that would mean they are probably doing things right.

Our country is screwed.

Being a moderate(or pretending to be) is absolutely essential to winning general elections.

Agreed, if you plan to win the general election, you have to be at least a moderate and not too much further to the right. Even though I think he would be the best republican candidate, would the voters want another Bush as president? Let's assume Hillary wins, I don't see voters going for a 3rd Clinton either.

But, who else is out there on the republican side?

For you Republicans out there in BGPland , why on Earth would you entertain the thoughts of voting for some of those on the lunatic fringe(I'm not really a Dean Ambrose fan) like Rand Paul or Ted Cruz over someone like Jeb Bush, who despite having the DNA of GHWB and GWB, seems remarkably sensible and more than capable of not doing anything worse than running the country into the ground? I think his problem with a lot of Republicans(especially Tea-Party ones) is that he's TOO sensible. He was a pretty decent governor wasn't he? Some of the other loons haven't governed anything. Is it because the Bush's and Clinton's are pretty close personal friends? If I was a Republican, I think Jeb would be the ONLY choice.

Criminal Justice reform, ending the Patriot Act, a restrained foreign policy.....yes. Rand seems like a lunatic.

10 years ago, the left was in pain from screaming for a Republican who held these views.

Sensible in your opinion is a Bush who hasn't indicated he'd be any different from his brother. More war, more debt, defending the Patriot Act (liberals still oppose this right?), No Child Left Behind, the original Bailouts.

That's laughable.

Mitt Romney won the Independent/Moderate vote.....

Is he electable? Depends on how much the media sticks it to him. I think he'd make a heck of a lot better president than Hillary would.

Which media - the right wing media or the left wing media?

He's more electable than most, if not all, of the other GOP candidates.

I believe you are right. I just don't think the leaders of the Republican Party see it though. They are more interested in advancing their own agenda and can't see that the candidates they favor are too far to the right for the majority of voters to pull the lever for.

Hillary is the strong favorite at this point but things can change. The bias you spoke of does work against Jeb but I believe he is certainly electable. I mean let's face it, it's probably going to be Jeb vs Hil. As usually happens, a lot of people will hold their noses and vote for one or the other. Maybe in another nine years it will be Chelsea vs one of the Bush girls. They just won't go away. Kinda like herpes.

This is correct. A lot of people make noise about voting for a third-party candidate, but when push comes to shove, do exactly this.

If it actually comes to Clinton vs Bush, don't be surprised if a 3rd Party candidate make a LOT of noise.

In a Clinton v Bush election, is it possible that Bush is the more moderate of the two? I see him leaning more center than her. Could be wrong. I can't wait to see the skeletons dug out of those closets. The TV stations will get rich on those ads. Which of the two is more likeable? I'd go with Bush.

Be interested to hear what makes Paul, the "Lunatic Fringe" as you called him.

Hey, good to hear from you again. If I had to list all the crazy stuff the Tea-Party darling had said, I would be here all night and I need to eat something before bedtime.

Said he wouldn't mind seeing the Americans for Disabilities Act repealed b/c it was unfair to business. LOL

Said healthcare was equivalent to slavery for healthcare workers. Astonishing.

Said if all people were Christians, there would be no need for laws. (You might agree with that one)

Said he wouldn't mind seeing the Civil Rights Act of '64 repealed. When he got backlash on that humdinger he backtracked, saying he's no racist. lol

Gave comments lending support to the "theory" that vaccines lead to autism.

And he's a medical doc. So sad.

Oh, and that's just a small list. If I'm not mistaken, all of those dandies were said IN ONE WEEK! You know, the same week he became one of the few people in history to cancel a Meet the Press appearence. Can't hardly blame him for cancelling, though. Can you imagine the grilling he would have gotten over those lunatic fringe comments? It will never, ever happen , of course, but I would love to see your party nominate this man. I would love it. And so would the Democrats. Paul is Sarah Palin with a M.D.

Is a Rand Paul something that generates random numbers between zero and Paul? Food for thought. :)

Which media - the right wing media or the left wing media?
Well, if he get's the nod from the GOP, then ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC.... in short, the left wing media.

Not sure that it matters if we think he's electable or not. It depends on what the Koch brothers think. They're still pulling all of the strings on that side of the aisle.

Not even close. Koch brothers and Soros are the most overrated donors people usually associate with the parties.
