April 17, 201511 yr I may be one of those rare people who like Stephen A. a lot more than Skip Bayless. Here was his take this morning on the Spurs' loss last night, dropping them from the a possible 2 seed in the west to the 6 seed. He prefaced his take with, "I know my Spurs". A. After winning it all last year, they wanted more of a challenge this year. So now they get home court in none of the upcoming series (assuming that a 7 or 8 seed doesn't win). That sounds patently ridiculous to me. What team doesn't want to give themselves the best chance to win? B. The Spurs didn't want to play the 7 seed Dallas Mavericks in the first round. While on the surface that may make a bit of sense, it is overruled by the above.
April 17, 201511 yr I always hated the "the other team wanted it more" stuff. One of the all time dumbest quotes in sports history. That and..."if they didn't want to lose by 100, they should have just stopped them..."
April 17, 201511 yr I always hated the "the other team wanted it more" stuff. I've "wanted it more" a time or two. Don't remember the final score every time, but pretty sure I lost more than I won... :idunno:
April 17, 201511 yr Bayless is a goof, good word. Smith is worse, or at least just as bad. Perhaps the most unwatchable show on the ESPN networks, and that is saying something. I've never heard two guys spout more pointless drivel about meaningless topics than these two. Can't believe the show is still on honestly. I'm sure on cue, someone will chime in with how much they like the show.

He seems to have a good sense of humor about himself. Skip seems like he is watching everyone else spin in his universe.
April 17, 201511 yr Author Skip on TV is 100% an act. In all seriousness, I always wondered about that. I can see the two of them in the green room talking about just how outrageously polar opposite viewpoints they should take on the issues of the day.

From all accounts he is a really strange guy, which makes sense.
April 17, 201511 yr I hate that acting like that is what gets someone a decent payday. The guy won an Eclipse Award at just 26 years old for his coverage of Seattle Slew's Triple Crown, so he's got game. Three-time Texas Sportswriter of the Year while working at the Dallas Morning News. I believe he was one of the guys on the front lines of the SMU Football scandal in 1986. I've read some of his stuff; the guy is good... I just hate his schtick.

Was at the Miracle on Ice; was in Dallas for SMU and Cowboys' run (which he wrote some books about); in Chicago for the end of Michael Jordan's tenure, in San Fransisco for Barry Bonds.
