Anytime someone tells me that they love a certain horror movie, I'm just mystified. Don't understand how anyone likes any of them. Someone subjected me to "The Hills Have Eyes" when I was in college. I was sorely tempted to never speak to him again.

I hate all slasher type movies. I don't mind a good thriller but anytime large amounts of blood and gore are involved, I'm out.

 

I concur. I am not at all squeamish but I cringe when I see graphic violence of a screen. And I'm not one that will voluntarily put myself in a position to be startled or scared on purpose. Haunted house and horror movies are out for me.

First two that come to mind. Honestly, any movie that has Will Ferrell as the lead man isn't for me. I think he can be funny but not as a lead.

 

I said the same thing about him and Kevin Hart the other day. Both are funny dudes but not as the lead in movies.

No joke. I know people love that movie. That is why it is a perfect fit for this thread.

 

And it isn't an anti Tarantino thing either. I like a lot of his movies. I just felt much of the violence in that movie was being done for the sake of violence and not for the sake of the story

 

That's all of his movies.

I'm not a fan of Will Ferrell either. Haven't liked him since I first saw him on Saturday Night Live. The movies of his that I have seen seem to me to be sophomoric.

 

I love Pulp Fiction but I can certainly see how it would turn many off. However, I think it is an excellent movie for many reasons.

 

Even though slasher movies are not my cup of tea I tend to like Tarantino movies. I'll watch Kill Bill any time it's on and I loved Pulp Fiction. I haven't watched Django Unchained from start to finish but have seen the whole movie in pieces. It's OK. That said I couldn't sit through 12 Years a Slave. Maybe it's because 12 Years is based on actual events.

I've never understood the popularity of torture movies, such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Saw series, Hostel, Nightmare On Elm Street, Halloween movie series, Friday 13th, etc...

Movies where the themes is all about torture, suffering, misery, fright, and murder, just turns me off. There's enough of that in the real world and on the news, I don't need movies to add to it.

This is just me but I look at Pulp Fiction as a stand alone work. I think it is a masterpiece.

 

I have seen a couple of other Tarantino movies like Kill Bill. They are fine but I heap them with everything else.

Regarding horror movies, there are A LOT more REALLY bad horror movies than there are watchable horror movies. But when done well they can be really good. Scream is an excellent example. The first one was fantastic.

 

I think the problem is it's very easy for them to be formulaic and there is a definite audience waiting for them each fall.

Now I did like the Scream movies. Again though, I have to cover my eyes during some of the scenes.

Have to admit it's one of my favorites.

I fell asleep during Constantine at the theater.

Birdman. Terrible. The critics loved it and I guess others do but not really sure.
