April 8, 201511 yr How about he goes out and tries to get the best players possible regardless of where they're from? You're living in a fantasy world if you think kids from the NKY area are year in, year out good enough to form an entire team that can compete at the D1 level. He's the same guy who wanted Stowers to be head coach. He's hard to ignore but I am going to try.

April 8, 201511 yr Hey John, Call Zach Pangallo from NCC. Like Cal said about Tyler Ulis, you can build your team around him. Zach Pangallo is good enough to play for NKU. IMO!!! Pangallo was definitely good enough to play at NKU 5 years ago, or maybe even less. NKU is now Division I, even though it still has that "local school" feel. If Zach wants to walk on at NKU, I'm sure Coach Brannen would be able to find a spot for him.
April 8, 201511 yr I'm not going to say anything negative about any specific HS player in NKY, but NKU needs to be bigger and better than a team of NKY All-Stars. I want kids that are better than "good enough". I want players at NKU that are "good enough" to be playing at UC, X, OSU, WVU, and etc. but find themselves at Northern. This is exactly how every fan of NKU should feel. With their facilities and appealing location I see no reason that NKU shouldn't be able to nab some recruits from the bigger boys. Especially now that they have a coach with some pedigree of success in a bigger program and on the recruiting trails. I wouldn't mind seeing Brannen build the program up initially by bringing in some JUCO's that are ready to contribute immediately.
April 8, 201511 yr I never said an entire team i listed 3 kids. One it helps sell tickets. 2 you get some solid kids who can be roll players. Another 50 season tickets sold by giving 3 kids a scholarships is not going to move the needle. Winning at a high level against teams people want to see play will.
April 8, 201511 yr I hope that John can own I-70. Take away kids that would go to MAC schools. Also, have an influence on I-40. His sweet spot will be right in between there. W/ NKUs budget, I can't imagine that they'll be able to cast a very wide net over the south.

Those three alone would not make NKU competitive. Hatton is at a Division I school and Bolden is inked with a high-level D1 school, so those two are certainly capable of playing at NKU. Nick is not a Division 1 player. He's undersized but he could potentially contribute by the end of his career (assuming he would take a spot as a walk-on). The point remains that NKU will have to recruit outside of the 9th & 10th regions if they want to compete on the Division I level. It seems you're completely underestimating the type of talent & body it takes to play at a D1 school.
