April 2, 201511 yr The college game is a blood bath around the rim. If you can't run a clean offense, and when you do you aren't afforded a clean whistle on the finish there are no other rules that matter. Silly crap like shortening the clock and moving the charge circle out are slapping lipstick on a pig. What about widening the lane like the NBA and International basketball? Is that lipstick or would that be a reasonable change? I hear some talk about that but it seems less likely than changing the shot clock and charge circle.
April 2, 201511 yr Because the women's game is broke more than the mens. It's possibly the least competitive sport in America. The problem with the women's game is there aren't enough good players to go around. There are only 5-10 teams that are consistently good and they horde all the players. In the men's game, the top 5-10 programs are always best, but the gap between those big teams and the next 50 teams isn't that wide. And as someone else mentioned, there are enough good men's players to have solid basketball at the Division II/III level and NAIA.

The other stuff can enhance that decision, but if clutching and grabbing still happen that stuff is pointless...
April 2, 201511 yr Nothing will change until freedom of movement is allowed. The other stuff can enhance that decision, but if clutching and grabbing still happen that stuff is pointless... I agree. The same goes for HS ball. They start calling it at the beginning of the year and by mid-season it is back to basketbrawl. Even when they did call it close on the perimeter you could maul the shooter if he was in the paint.
April 2, 201511 yr Nothing will change until freedom of movement is allowed. The other stuff can enhance that decision, but if clutching and grabbing still happen that stuff is pointless... My thoughts as well, although I do think a wider lane would help freedom of movement more than a shot clock change or a new charge circle.

The first year will be painful, but once refs start calling the hand checks and grabs, players will adjust and we will see a more entertaining brand of basketball. I see this as very similar to the NBA.
April 2, 201511 yr Because the product he coaches is one of the most boring sports on the planet and the fact he has never coached a men's team at a high level he should stay quiet. Women and Men's basketball are different games period. I'm confused. If you don't coach a men's team, you aren't allowed to give your opinion of the college men's game WHEN ASKED? I agree that the women's game and men's game are totally different. However, I will say it again, he knows more about basketball in general than 99% of the masses so I think he is definitely qualified. What did he say that was wrong BTW? Seems like I have been hearing a lot of so called "experts" saying the same thing lately.
April 3, 201511 yr UC's scoring problems were turnover and tempo related far more than they were shooting. It was the best 2 point FG% team in the Cronin era and the three primary guards were solid from the perimeter... 2 Point FG% doesn't really mean much since dunks and offensive stick-backs are 2 point FGs. UC did not really have any kind of offense to get an open look at a 3 point shot and they really should not have because they are not going to shoot a high percentage from there. Their best offense at times this year was to get a shot up before they turned it over or the shot clock got to low and to rebound the missed shot. And the way the game is played now it led to success.
April 3, 201511 yr College basketball had one of the most radical change of any sport when the 3 point line and the shot clock were introduced. But then it has not changed much since. Honestly in the era before the shot clock and 3 point line it was pretty boring.
April 3, 201511 yr Get rid of the 3pt line...it has ruined the game! You wonder why no movement, everybody stands at 3pt line. If they have to have it move it back several feet. I hate the 3pt line....move and get open without looking down to see the line!! Geno needs to coach the girls and think about how boring their games are, ugggggggghhhhhhhh

I think it has ruined the offensive flow of the game. 90% of every teams offense is to look for a player open at the baseline for a dunk or dish it out for an open 3. There really isn't much creativity at all anymore.

April 3, 201511 yr It really is pretty simple. Why does the college game look so much different than the NBA game? Maybe because roughly 1% of the guys in D1 will ever see one second on the floor in the NBA. With that said, the only fix is forcing the "freedom of movement" changes that were pushed at the start of last season. Offense in the college game looks ugly because the coaches refuse to give up the ability to bump and grab at every opportunity. The college game is a blood bath around the rim. If you can't run a clean offense, and when you do you aren't afforded a clean whistle on the finish there are no other rules that matter. Silly crap like shortening the clock and moving the charge circle out are slapping lipstick on a pig. If the rules don't allow running clean offense, guess what is the end result??? Problem is I disagree with others, I like the bumping. Checking someone who tries to do a cut a cross the lane on me is apart of basketball in my mind.

Honestly in the era before the shot clock and 3 point line it was pretty boring. I agree, messing with either the 3 point line or shot clock would take most of the excitment out of the game. The main reason the NCAA games are so competitive(in the men's games) is the 3 point line. Take that away and the mid majors will all be gone in the first round, my favorite part of the tournament.
