Congrats to Owensboro. Those rankings are interesting though.

Yeah they sound good to me..Go Red Devils

Agreed.

I love seeing Ky teams nationally ranked, but this seems like a stretch to me. A week ago this team was barely considered a top 10 team in Kentucky, and while that was obviously lower than it should have been I don't think last week was enough for a jump into the top 25 in the country.

I think OHS was overlooked most of the year in Kentucky. Granted OHS didn't help their cause when they laid another egg against Trinity, but that game helped serve as a much needed wakeup call for OHS, especially the guards. OHS led Doss most of the game at the KOB, and lost when starting PG Jacoby Harris went out in the 4th quarter with and injury. Harris did not play the next game as OHS lost a 17 point lead to Wayne County as they hit something like 15 3's to beat OHS.

I'm not going to pretend that I know about all these teams nationally. However, I do think it's awesome for OHS to be the in same poll as teams like Oak Hill and Montverde. Keep in mind guys, if a couple of players (Eli Wright and Marshall Griffith) stayed in the city school system, OHS couldve been a top 10 nationally ranked team this year. I'll take this result any day of the week and it brings a smile to my face knowing what these kids accomplished for themselves, OHS, the city of Owensboro, and now the state of Kentucky.

FWIW...Evansville Reitz checks in at #23 . That would've been a great regular season matchup! Reitz is killing people this year.

Impressive. Well done.

Always nice to see a team from KY get noticed, well done!

We talk about how tough it is to compare teams in WKY to teams in other areas of the state — a national poll only compounds that idea. I think they give you an idea of teams that are playing extremely well in their state, but without the teams playing each other (which only the ultra-elite do on a yearly basis), it's tough to compare and then rank high schools across the country.

That said, Owensboro (and WKY in general) turned a lot of heads in Kentucky this year — and now we see that they've put WKY HS hoops on the map nationally. Hopefully we'll see some more recognition for them in the future.

We need a National Tournament...that would be sweet

First off congrats to the Red Devils and the whole Red Devil family. They got on a great run from the region on. The margin of victory threw the elimination phase was absolutely crazy! I believe that added to Owensboro getting ranked. Plus we all know the rankings take into account history, and although Owensboro has had a drought in between titles, the overall numbers are up there with the best in the state. We also have to give respect to Ballard,Trinity,Cov Cath,Knott Co Central, etc for representing the state well in some big time Christmas tourneys/games. The state showed pretty well this year against out of state teams. Lastly the state is basketball crazy and we have one champion. Add that up,and right or wrong, Owensboro gets a #24 ranking. I appreciate the respect shown to KY basketball!
