Congratulations to Campbell County going back to back. As a CCH fan they concern me, no doubt. And CCH has obviously struggled vs. the zone against Dixie and in the 9th region tournament, but has figured out how to win.

 

However, looking at Campbell County's schedule and who they beat along the way is less than impressive. I don't mean to disrespect these schools, so please, I am merely going on records.

 

Campbell County is 24-9 and has played Ludlow, Calvary, Conner, Western Hills, Holy Cross, Silver Grove, Highlands, Fleming Co., Grant Co., Pendleton, Harrison, Bourbon, Scott 3X, and Newport. Yes, Newport gave CCH the biggest scare of the year, but the road to Rupp was much easier in the 10th. It has to be said that the 10th Region was down this year. Brossart lost a lot of talent, Moco lost a lot of talent. GRC was ok, Mason was Mason but somehow got upset.

 

To be fair, I believe the 9th Region will be somewhat down next year with all the talent leaving now a lot of the great talent a year or two away.

 

Campbell did play Dixie first game of year and won, and played CCH and lost big. With this kind of team coming back I would have thought the coaching staff would have made some calls and tried to get in more tournaments and scheduled "up" a little more. I realize they must play a lot of these games as part of District requirements, etc.

 

For state, I see a close game throughout with CovCath's experience of last years run and also their tough schedule preparing them to win this game by 6 to 7 points.

I personally don't think Cov.Cath is playing their best basketball. Newport had them beat and they were losing to both St. Henry and Holmes at half. With that said however, if it's a close game, I'll have to give the edge to experienced Colonels.

Dre had some early success in their first meeting. CCH did a good job containing Wilson. I believe CCH guards are better than the Camels group, which is a big factor on the big floor / big stage. If Wilson has big game it will be tight. Otherwise, I see Colonels by 10 . . . making their FTs in the 4th.

Really. As far as Aric Russell...this will be his 3rd trip to state in 5 years with 2 different teams and 2 different regions. Let's give the guys some well deserved respect. And Ruthsatz does a good job preparing his kids for the long haul as well.

CovCath seems to always figure things out in the end. I pick them by 5-8 points.

I would agree Cov Cath is not playing their best ball right now and Campbell County is. But after watching both numerous times and seeing the last matchup between the two, I think it will be the Colonels in a much closer game than last time.

As for coaching, you can't argue the resume of either coach, both are outstanding and know how to win at the right time.

3 regionals, one being over that incredible Holmes team...yeah. It is b/n him and Ruthsatz.

Colonels by 10-12, they have a favorable bracket again this year. Ballard, Lexington Catholic, Knott Co and Boyle are all on the other side. Coach Ruthsatz will have them ready come next Wednesday, although Campbell County will not go easy. I thought they played a nice game at Rupp last year, just came up a little short.

I predict the Camels will win this one in a close one. The Camels are clicking on all cylinders at the right time of the season. They aren't the same team that played Cov Cath earlier in the season but definitely should make for a great game.

 

These "They aren't the same team that played Cov Cath earlier in the season" comments always make me laugh. What team, with even decent coaching is the same team come the end of the season as they were towards the beginning of the season? Short of major injuries to an impact player(s) no team "aren't the same team". I do expect a closer game then their first meeting but with the same result, CCH moves on.

I agree with you here. They are not playing great. Outside shots are not falling, some missed FT's and rare missed easy shots. Still, they have the opportunity to get back to mid-season form and make another run.

 

They do play the best defense in the state and that has saved them.
