At this point in the season it has less to do with coaching and more to do with the mental mind state of each team. With the exception of a few different looks on offensive sets, it's all muscle memory at this point. Will and determination are heavy factors moving forward. Those Newport kids from the other night were playing inspired basketball. Strength of schedule, personnel, all that garbage didn't matter. While conditioning did play a role, those Newport kids were dialed in but simply had nothing left in the tank.

 

Read the press exerts from the CCH players that have been interviewed. It's a state of mind for those CCH boys. Collectively they recognize that the sum of parts is much better than individual success. Every one of those boys are sold out. It's not about them, it's about the team. Those boys are ready to role. With all due respect to Coach R, he's got an arsenal of talent, with high IQ players. That makes a tremendous difference. His job is that much easier.

 

Per every Sweet 16 game I've been watching since I was in 6th grade, all games will come down to defensive rebounding and free throws.

I am confused by this statement. Because his kids are "smarter" it is easier to coach and what does CC have not very smart kids and Coach Russell's job is harder? Also if you don't think CC's team is all about the TEAM then you must not know this team very well.

I understand what you are saying, I guess I just took it as that it makes a tremendous difference in the game itself, I didn't draw a connection to CC or their players. Maybe the original poster can elaborate

Besides, if you've seen many player interviews on the pro and college level, you already know that a HIGH IQ is not required to be a great athlete.

Two really good well coached teams. It's a bummer I can't cheer for both because they both represent the NKY area very well and would beat most of the teams in this year's tourney.

 

I think swag will mean a lot in this one and there is nothing like having that defending state champ swag.

I was surprised this morning at the paint store when I asked a frequent shopper there what he thought and he said he didn't think CCH is playing real well at the moment. I was like, c'mon man. But he was real concerned. Guess we'll see. Heading down with my boy to check out the game.
