February 24, 201511 yr I stopped reading after this sentence. No point in continuing the conversation. Cool. Jay Bruce info from redsreporter.com. I can't find one article saying anything after his surgery about him not being able to injure himself worse. Most of the stuff says he waited to have surgery b/c he wouldn't injure it worse. It may be true but I didn't see it on my very brief google search He was initially expected to miss nearly a month. Jay was activated off the DL in 15 days, and played in May 23rd's contest against the St. Louis Cardinals. Bruce missed only 14 team games after having surgery on his knee, and many (rightfully) speculated if he had come back too soon. Rest of season, Bruce struggled to contribute much of anything. In the end, all Jay got for the trouble of toughing out a fairly significant injury was the worst season of his career. He got on base less than 30 percent of the time, and posted career lows across the board. It was the first time his OPS+ dipped under 100 since his rookie year.
February 24, 201511 yr Maybe if Chapman does hit Latos, he can throw a pillow out to the mound so Chapman can take a nap afterwards. Maybe, but after all the shoving around he'd start up that smoker's cough and it'd be hard to sleep.
February 24, 201511 yr Ive said for years the Reds needed a "likes to fight guy" on the team. It seems possible Latos may have sparked a likes to fight team. I can only hope so. We'll see. So far all the fighting they have done is on Twitter...
February 24, 201511 yr We'll see. So far all the fighting they have done is on Twitter... What players have said anything on Twitter?
February 24, 201511 yr Didn't the Reds win the award for best medical staff in MLB in 2012? Still the same medical staff?
February 24, 201511 yr What players have said anything on Twitter? I'm sorry, I read most of their comments on Twitter. How about this: So far all of their fighting has been done with words...Better?
February 24, 201511 yr I'm sorry, I read most of their comments on Twitter. How about this: So far all of their fighting has been done with words...Better? Well clearly.....What are we expecting? Them to drive to wherever Miami has ST and get into a fist-fight?
February 24, 201511 yr Didn't the Reds win the award for best medical staff in MLB in 2012? Still the same medical staff? Yes and yes.
February 24, 201511 yr Well clearly.....What are we expecting? Them to drive to wherever Miami has ST and get into a fist-fight? I had responded to plantman with a "We'll see". That's okay isn't it? It's easy to talk, just because they responded in interviews doesn't mean they have suddenly become a team of brawlers or that they are particularly united.
February 24, 201511 yr I think the Reds as an organization should at least look into things and see if Latos' grip is legit. Whether he's a Marlin now or not, Latos was there standing first hand witness to the '12, '13, and '14 seasons to have an opinion about it (and old man Marlon Byrd was not). I think it's pretty lame that he wasn't willing to step up and try to be the clubhouse leader. He may not have been the oldest on the roster, but he could have at least tried. Ludwick should have definitely tried, but he's completely uncharismatic. Votto should have tried, but he's a mental case. Phillips should have tried, but he's too busy trying to please the fans and ladies. You could even make the argument that Santiago should have tried to be the clubhouse leader (in '14 he was the second oldest on the roster, behind Ludwick), but he's...whatever. Point is, I don't really take beef with what Latos said, assuming it's the truth. A spade is a spade.
February 25, 201511 yr Didn't the Reds win the award for best medical staff in MLB in 2012? Still the same medical staff? Kremcheck is widely considered a great surgeon. Doesn't mean they get the rehab right. Also, there are countless managers and coaches in every sport named best coach of the year that are fired a couple years later or we realize they actually suck but their players were good to great. Not all people that win awards are great.
February 25, 201511 yr Mike Berk @mike_berk 2 minutes ago @Reds Jay Bruce on Latos: "the day Mat was traded was the day I didn't have to worry about Mat anymore".
February 25, 201511 yr I have no problem with things he said in the interview. But they were digs, subtle, but digs. So he has what he has coming. Love Marlon Byrd's response, love Homer's response, love Sam's response and love Skip's response. Lato sounds like a jackwagon of a person. Don't know Mat personally but I am betting that he and that wife of his are pieces of work and that's putting it nicely.
