February 17, 201511 yr Dick Vitale Not Calling Wednesday's UNC/Duke Game First time a UNC vs. Duke game will air on ESPN and not have Dick Vitale on the call. Is this the first sign that the network is finally starting to phase him out? If so, it's LONG overdue IMO.

February 17, 201511 yr He's been #2 crew all season. Bilas is now ESPN's Big Game Guy! Dick has been to some gyms this year for the first time in over 20+ years. I think he said the trip to South Carolina for the Kentucky game was his first in over 20 years.
February 17, 201511 yr Author Dick Vitale IS college basketball. I hope he works another 10 years. He's done a TON of good for the game in his career, however it's passed him by. He's as passionate as ever, and it's obvious he truly cares about the players & schools, but he's not good at what he does any more. It's painful to listen to him call a game, and at this point his over the top persona and ranting take away from the game he's calling much more than they add to it.
February 17, 201511 yr If you guys don't like Dickie V but are UK fans I have bad news for you...he will be calling many more UK games than in the past. He rarely if ever goes out west for games. He now will be the #2 crew for ESPN games, how many times will UK vs whoever still be at least one of the top games each time they play while not being the top game. Kentucky alone right now draws high enough rating to get one of ESPN's top crews most nights. That means we will getting MORE Dickie V not Less!!!

February 17, 201511 yr This has been apparent going back to last season. This year he has not done any Saturday night games. He has been slipping the past few years.
February 17, 201511 yr I love Dickie V. I will never understand the disdain people have for announcers. I think he is a great guy. I'm less high on his actual commentating. He frequently spends little to no time talking about the game he is actually attending. He is also easily (over)excitable, and not necessarily the most insightful. I watched the replay of the Mardi Gras Miracle last weekend. Even with UK down a million points, the announcers were still talking about the game. These days they would have been talking about anything but.
February 17, 201511 yr He stopped being cool about 1995 .. today he is so annoying he makes what should be fun so bad I have to mute it . Therefore taking away from the experience of watching any game
