Is ESPN (Finally!) Starting to Phase Out Dick Vitale?

I don't understand the vitriol either. One would think they are a notch below convicted felons.

What vitriol are you guys speaking of? Is not thinking he does a good job considered vitriol these days?

I love Dickie V. I will never understand the disdain people have for announcers.

People in general criticize what other people do all the time... Especially when your job places you in front of millions. Some announcers have personalities that fans do not like, therefore they are some who are highly respected and other who are not.

Personally, I love Dickie V. I think he is fun energetic, but you have to take what he says with a grain of salt. I believe his time has passed and he should be phased out.

^Yep. He's calling tonight's game....If he can make it to Knoxville.

Good reason to tune radio and turn down TV. I like him, he's a legend, we get it...time to move on. Maybe he and Jim Burr can go on the road together for special events....like Martin & Lewis

Dickie V has been great for the sport. He's a legend, and an icon. But he's an awful color commentator. He adds little to no substance to the TV presentation.

Anyone know how to sync TV and Radio up...I'd love to listen to the radio and watch the game but a delay of a couple of seconds drives me nuts :lol2:

TV is always behind radio.

He's done a TON of good for the game in his career, however it's passed him by.

He's as passionate as ever, and it's obvious he truly cares about the players & schools, but he's not good at what he does any more. It's painful to listen to him call a game, and at this point his over the top persona and ranting take away from the game he's calling much more than they add to it.

I don't mind Vitale, I love his pssion and he's WAY better than Knight (talk about things passing you by). That old war horse(BK) absolutely needs to be put out to pasture.

However, I do enjoy Jay Bilas.

Dickie V doesn't bother me at all, but I'd take Jay Bilas over him every single time. He's the best in the business.

I've only heard him a few times this season but I didn't feel he was overly bad. Even if that time does come, I would love to see him transition into something that keeps him active and keeps in around the games. Dick Vitale is a great ambassador for the game and a great guy.

I met him at South Carolina. He was there 2 hours before the game walking around the arena handing out pamphlets about children's cancer research and the V Foundation. Of everything he has done publicly, that will probably be my greatest memory of Dickie V. He's a great guy off the camera too.

There's no doubt in my mind that he's 100% genuine and a great guy. And I agree, he should be doing something with the game. I just think his days as a commentator have come and gone.

Is Knight still doing games? I haven't heard him all season.

Yes, about a week ago I heard him doing a game (cannot remember who).

Knight and Bill Walton...Vitale is still 50 times better than both, IMO.

If you have a DVR, just pause the game for a couple seconds then hit play when it matches the radio. Should be good to go.

TV never catches up...Radio is always ahead of it. I need to pause radio!

This link says it all about Dick Vitale, circa 1977 vs. Marquette.
