February 3, 201511 yr Well ???? We are all waiting.... You swish a tablespoon of coconut oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes. It's supposed to reduce the amount of bacteria in your mouth, and apparently when you practice it while brushing regularly, it can help minimally to whiten your teeth. The idea of swishing anything around in my mouth for 20 minutes makes me want to puke.

February 3, 201511 yr Is it possible that the oil has anti-microbial properties and could possibly dilute oral bacteria? Yes. In 20 minutes would the enzymes in your saliva break down the oil into negligible totals? Likely. Does it whiten teeth? Never heard of it and would be shocked if it did without demineralizing the enamel some way, and perhaps that's possible. As for the medical benefit, the medical community (namely the board of cardiology) doesn't buy into the normal oral flora as a major causitive issue in severe cardiac issues. They have poopoo'd the notion when trying to connect the dots between periodontal disease and cardiac issues as probable. Cultures post mortem have suggested otherwise. I'd guess this fad will go the way of baking soda as a treatment, etc.
