St. Xavier OC position open

Featured Replies

They wouldn't be advertising the position like they are if Wolford was going to promote from within I don't think. Who is the receiver coach and where did he coach? Who is the OL coach and where did he coach?

Oline coach is Billings. He was the head coach at Etown before. WR Coach is Fromeyer (spelling) use to be the head coach at Eminence.

Probably has attracted a lot of qualified candidates from inside the program and outside. I believe someone already mentioned this, but I hope the program hires an individual who is able to stick with the program for a longer period of time than one season. Also, the HC has to figure out what he wants his offense to be, and make a hire accordingly.

The previous staff had not lost to Male since 2006.

Per the khsaa scoreboard website:

Last 2 years of the Glaser tenure vs. Male:

4-0

Total Points in 4 games: 209 - 31

Avg. Per Game: 52 - 8

First 2 years of the Wolford tenure vs. Male:

0-3

Total Points in 3 games: 74 - 97

Avg. Pts. Per Game: 25 - 32

Let's base our opinions on fact, not perception.

You've got to take those last 2 years results against Male with a grain of salt..... the last 2 Male teams have been 2 of the best they've had in YEARS, Trinity has only been 1-3 against them the last 2 years, just trying to keep it objective...

Excellent point. I think one of Coach Wolford's initial mistakes was lack of knowledge of high school coaches. His first staff looked a lot like a CSAA group. Now he has a number of former high school head coaches and coordinators. The defense seems to have established an identity. Maybe he'll find an OC who can do the same.

Good point Fansincebirth. As has been stated above, Wolford, as the head coach, must define what he wants the offense to be regardless of who the next coordinator is. What he has done thus far regarding the offense is similar to trying to navigate to an unfamiliar destination without a map.

Don't they have to advertise it for 30 days like the rest of us? Or can private schools get around this?

Privates can do as they please when hiring

I am of the opinion that most public schools do what they want anyway. Sure, it may appear they followed the 30 day rule but in reality I don't think that is the case in many new hires.

Most public schools do this as well.

Do what? Follow the 30 day rule or only appear to follow the 30 day rule?

Football wise, I'd rather be the OC at X than the HC at about 90% of the schools out there. JMO

At least down here they already know who they are going to hire for most teaching and coaching jobs before they even post it.

One solution is to get rid of Wolford and hire a head coach with actual high school coaching experience, whether it be head coaching experience or a proven assistant.

If that does not happen (which it probably will not), I think Wolford should clearly define what he wants the offense to be and work together with whomever he hires to put together a sound system. Then, he needs to support that coach to allow that coach to fully implement that system to develop throughout all levels of the program.

In other words, stick with something long enough to allow the players to get better at it. So far in his head coaching tenure, that has not happened. He has tried to cover up his lack of a philosophy and offensive direction by throwing another coach at the problem.

Bruin, You couldn't be more incorrect in your assessment of the situation. Try taking off your Glaser-colored glasses, really watching games, observing practices, and talking to the players.

In just one season, Wolford's DC hire, Bart Bruner, dramatically improved a defense that had 10 new starters &, allegedly, far less talent than Wolford's first DC had at his disposal. I believe Wolford will now bring aboard a Bruner-caliber offensive coordinator.
