St. Xavier OC position open

Bruin66 aren't you the incessant Wolford critic who says he needs to figure out his offensive philosophy? What's the rush? If the new guy is a teacher he won't be around for while anyway. Maybe he's making sure he has the right guy. There is no rush except in your mind.

Not really a rush, but one would think that before you fire someone, you would have the replacement in mind, or at least a list of potential replacements. That has always been a hallmark of Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich. He supposedly keeps a list of potential coaches in every sport. That doesn't seem to be the case with Wolford. He seems to be grasping for straws to come up with a magical elixir for the Tiger offense. And if that particular elixir does not work, he gets rid of it and tries another one. What he has not done is let anything on offense take root. The upcoming Senior class will have had at least four different offensive coordinators / offensive systems in place during their tenure as players. That is a shame, and is unfair to them.

As far as Wolford figuring out his offensive philosophy, that should have been done before he became the head coach. To me, that is why you hire a head coach: to implement his philosophy. But you cannot implement what you don not have.

It just seems like no matter what Wolford does you're going to be critical. Too many dads on staff, no philosophy, bad hires for offensive coordinator, change for change sake, taking too long to make a hire, on and on. Could we agree you just have issues with Wolford, justified or not? St X improved this year. Does he get credit for that?

I would have guessed Dave Raggone. But he has a new NFL gig.

Yes, time IS of the essence, as it is apparent a new offense is to be installed on Poplar Level Road.

I think the old OC is still going to be on staff. If that is true, that is certainly going to be weird for the new OC.

You are correct oh wise one.

Now the search is back on. I understand there were a couple of high school coaches that personally I feel would be a better fit. Imagine that; X going with a coach with high school experience that isn't an X guy or an ex-pro!!

I would agree that the defense did improve this year. I would not agree that they improved on offense this year. In fact, I would argue that they have regressed on offense each year under the Wolford regime.

I don't have issues with Wolford per se. I have issues that someone with Wolford's limited coaching experience would even be considered for a head coaching job, much less one at a traditionally successful program such as St. X. I don't think St. X should have to settle for a coach of his lack of qualifications.

In my opinion, playing success does not necessarily transition into coaching success. Coaching success is based on experience and developing over time.

I know everyone on here that has nothing to do with the school knows more than the school administrators and coaches, and that the experiences of the past 150 years are not comparable to your knowledge and input, but I am confident that we have an idea about what we are doing and that things will work out.

Because the way they handled the Glaser to Wolford transition has been such a rousing success?

Hey ..hey....hey...............a lot of us are still wearing black armbands in the wake of the departure of Coach G.

Something the Rock posters don't understand, while Football is important at St. X, its not the only thing! Academics and all other sports are important as well. At Trinity is appears that its Football, Football and Football, with some academics thrown in with some more Football. Case and point, Trinity builds new football stadium at the expense of a home baseball field. Coaching search for new football coach was a National Search to bring Beatty to Trinity. (Side note => Coach Beatty has done an excellent job at Trinity and his accomplishments will not be matched!!!) It seams the posters are more concerned about how St. X handles their search for a coach than trying to raise money to keep their own coach!!!

Of course you realize that Trinity was already playing at Thurman Hutchins when the football stadium was revamped?

You also realize that the baseball configuration of the old stadium was less then ideal. A short pop fly to left field was a home run and the football goal post was in fair territory?

You also realize that Trinity did extensive searching for a place to build a baseball facility in the St. Matthews area but were unsuccessful.

You also realize that Trinity has signed a long term agreement with metro parks for the use of the baseball field at Thurman Hutchins and over the past several years has invested their own money into building bleachers and a press box/storage/concessions building. And if the snow ever melts they will finish the renovations of the field itself.

Hopefully a few facts won't totally discredit your rant.

There are many many other students and parents in other sporting endeavors at T who would differ with you.

I agree that certain things could have been done better. Personnel matters are never easy in highly visible programs. Think Bergamini, Aberli, Gruneisen, etc. no one is immune.

I don't remember any of those you listed being "asked" to announce their retirement mid-season and seeing their successor named during their final season.
