"Entitlement" that is an interesting choice of words. Sure seems like one could turn that around the other way correct? Just because you are a senior and have been a part of the program for xx years, does that mean that your spot in the starting lineup is safe? I ask this because all we have heard since last season is that there are limited spots available on the varsity roster. Well if the "best" will play, then all positions are open for the taking I would presume. Lets not forget that JV and Frosh won the region tourney last year and the frosh actually won it 2 years ago as well so there is obviously some talent in those classes.

In the end, it really does not matter what anyone thinks because the coaches know what they are doing and what the ultimate goal is for them and I have confidence that they are going to do what is best for the team and the program as a whole. Actually think this years team has the chance to make a nice run in the postseason if they perform as they have proven they can do in the past several years.

I agree, I really do not like to use that word because is not in my vocabulary or yours for that matter.

I think we will both agree that the only way Baioni can keep kids and parents happy is to win.

Its one thing to win with kids that may be questioned as to whether they are the best or should even be playing and then its another whole animal if they do not win with those same kids...

If you look at any of Dales teams during his run they rarely ever were Sr dominated and he always sprinkled in younger talent just for the experience factor for the next yr and so on. And yes sometimes the younger kids were not the very best but it was best for the long term of the program...

Its a dangerous recipe that must be managed correctly and these are some really good problems for the Baseball program. :thumb:

Problem is baseball is a cut sport and football isn't. Big big difference in my opinion. If you take a senior that is marginal and cut a soph or junior that has ability and might develop. There could be an issue with those younger kids coming out the next year. You might lose some that could really help in the near future.. Wouldn't want to be in Jeremey's shoes. Tough decisions ahead!!

Honestly, these things all usually have a way of working themselves out during the course of the season. You will have injuries, slumps, etc that lead to someone getting the opportunity they relish, taking it and running with it. I have said for the last several years that this group of kids can play the game of baseball the way it is supposed to be played. There are some high quality players in the Senior and Junior classes and there is more on the way in the younger ones as well. I have confidence that Jeremy and the other coaches are big boys and they can handle whatever might be thrown their way.

Absolutley right. Baseball is no longer a show up and play sport. It requires some form of year round dedication towards improving skills to stay competetive. Especially, when you have 50 kids that want to start Varsity. Some kids aren't interested in putting in the effort/work required to compete for spots against high school, summer team, and Fall ball players that are working on baseball in the offseason, and are still wondering if they are going to make the team themselves. And thats ok. I looked at the names that were listed as potential exodus members and all have the athletism and talent to excel at any sport they choose. In my opinion, it comes down to how bad a player wants it. Plus, Kids are smarter than we give them credit for. They can assess the talent pool, do the math, and make their own informed decision on whether they want to work for a spot or just move on. IMO, it's a choice.

Ok JFP, this is what I can see from these threads. There may be a few that are wrong class, and a few that may not be trying out. Maybe JOAT can help with that. So go ahead and pick 18 for Varsity roster. See if you can play JB for cut day. Good luck!

Some commentary added. Thanks for the list:

Hennigan Sr - varsity experience as a 5 yr. letterman (the days of lettering as a 7th grader are gone); C

Whitford Sr - 4 yr.; SS

Ramey Sr - 2 yr.; 3B

Martin Sr - 1 yr.; P / 1B

Mills Sr - 1 yr.; 1B / 3B

Ball Sr - 1 yr.; 3B, C, DH, P (knuckleball)

Murray Sr - 2 yr.; LF

Venneman Sr - 1 yr.; CF

Jones Sr - 4 yr.; P

Martin Sr - DUPLICATE

Bunning Sr - 1 yr.; P / 1B

Noe Sr - 1 yr.; P / OF

Schoepf Sr - new; ?

Orne Sr - new to Varsity; played JV previously; did not play last year, I don't think

Raisor Jr - ? (pitched 2 Varsity games last year including 1st game of district tourney was a no-hit 5 inning run rule and also the Regional Championship game against Conner in which he pitched very well); P

Mark Walkenhorst Jr - 0; P / 1B (I think - the JRs are not as familiar to me)

Austin Mayhew Jr - 0; IF?

Conner Kreeger Jr - 0 (1 Varsity start against Mason in which he pitched very well); P / ?

Jared Dougherty Jr - 0; OF?

Austin Beal Jr - 0; OF?

Eric Miller Jr - 0; OF?

Conner Welsch Jr - 0; ?

Elijah Miller Cox Jr - 0; ?

Evan Ling Jr - Not trying out; played JV last year; LHP

John Penrod Jr - 0; ?

Brad Broering Jr - 0; ?

Ethan Doty Soph - 0; P / C

I have heard conflicting reports on Cain. Have not heard anything on others. For those above marked P / X, I think they will be primarily P only. That will allow JB to carry a larger roster than you would normally expect from a HS team.

Since a modified Varsity / JV group of ~24 is going to Myrtle Beach 3.30 - 4.3 and planning to play 9-10 games (5 Varsity & 4-5 JV) during that time, I suspect you will see a big fight to make the roster and another big fight to make the "post-MB" Varsity roster. Even after that "post-MB" Varsity roster is "set," I could certainly envision both position players and arms that play JV occasionally being brought up to Varsity based on injuries, slumps, matchups, schedule, etc. Any kid who goes to MB and then is told to show up at the JV game the MON after Spring Break and does so with his head hung and / or a bad attitude is likely to spend the rest of the year at JV. The kid who is told to show up at the JV game the MON after Spring Break and asks Coach Reynolds, "What do I have to do to get back up to Varsity right now and make sure I get to go back to MB as a Senior? Do I need to take extra BP? Do I need to take extra ground balls? Do I need to shag extra fly balls? Do I need to do extra bullpens?" is the kid that is likely to get called back up when he is needed and for postseason.

For example, did Raisor hang his head when he was pitching well at JV and never got the call to pitch Varsity? Nope. He kept getting better so that when he WAS called, he was prepared for the amazing postseason opportunity that was presented to him.

Should be fun.

So UK#1fan scooped the Highlands crowd with the official 2015 roster? Wow!

So UK#1fan scooped the Highlands crowd with the official 2015 roster? Wow!

Yep and quite the roster! Follow along my friend!

Hey Sweep, sounds like HHS softball made final roster adjustments today. I'm guessing the baseball final adjustments will be made very soon if not already completed. So a roster is inevitable. Unless ukfan already has it.
