What about Conner a team that is only loosing 4 true starters and bringing in a more than impressive freshman team. I still don't understand why this team is not more respected looking into this season.

As to the more respect, I don't think very many on here pay a lot of attention to an upcoming class of freshmen no matter how impressive they were. It's a big jump to varsity where they are competing against players up to two years older and more experienced. Those top freshman classes usually require a couple years to really make an impact.

If they make some noise after moving up to 6a, they will earn the respect of other people. I think that the buzz is always quiet on Cooper, so they kind of go unheralded even after having some very good seasons. Don't know why that is? If Cooper can beat Cov Cath or Highlands the spotlight will be on them bright.

My son's class played a LOT of varsity as sophs and juniors against good teams. Junior year was really rough. Senior year they were a top 5 team in the state.

 

Experience.

A year getting older.

Other teams graduate players while you bring back players.

Stronger.

I think Conner and Cooper both are in the same situation. They lost very few starters to graduation. The real question is will the underclassmen on Conner's team last year step up or not? Cooper for instance is coming off of a state semi final game, so we already know they have the players that should make them a pretty decent team this year. Conner however still needs to take that next step with the same players they relied on last year.

 

Conner can very well do just that and make an impact, it's just a matter of seeing if they can or not.

 

Right now however I do not think they are a top 5 team going into the season. They can however change the way that list looks at the end of the season. If I remember correctly, Cooper wasn't even in the top 10 going into the season back in 2012 and finished either 2nd or 3rd. Conner will have plenty of season to prove themselves.

It's hardly illogical. I saw Conner play last year. They weren't very good. Based on their new district they will not be good this year either. There is a big difference in talent and experience. Conner will have more experience but lacks the overall talent to compete with the better teams on their schedule.

Newport Central Catholic. Dixie. Simon kenton. It will be interesting where Scott will finish
