There was, but good ole poster made an absurd comment that will get a thread shut down every time.

 

On another note, is it safe to say the top 5 NKY preseason teams next year will include Highlands and Simon Kenton? Or do we need to expand that to top 10 to include one of those?

 

My top 5

 

1. Highlands 7-8 last State Championships with a ton of talent coming back

2. Ryle Two headed QB team with again, ton of talent coming back

3. CovCath New Coach and system

4. Beechwood They are just due to win again

5. Simon Kenton Because they hung with St X in a scrimmage

Nope! Aint sayin it! Wrong thread anyway. This thread is about top 5 teams in NKY.

2008 to 2014 but not 2011 the down year.

 

They wouldn't even win in the lowest class 1A. Mayfield or Beechwood would beat them every one of those years you listed. It is great that you can dream up fictitious titles simply because that is all you have to go on. Reality is if they are as great as you claim year after year of them being then they would have at least 1 State Championship in their 75 year history.

 

They aren't even in the top 5 in NKY history much less in the state at any level.

IMO SK is not a top NKY team. The jury is still out, but I would need to see a BIG improvement.

The better question is what will it take to earn the respect of other NKY elite programs? If it were a perfect world, and IF SK would defeat the Birds, and IF the blind squirrel found that nut, and IF hell freezes over, would that be enough to garner the respect of the other NKY teams? Being on the Birds schedule is just not enough, and even if they beat the Birds, one win wouldn't be enough to change the minds of the NKY folks. JMO.

Well I disagree with SK not being a top NKY team. IMO, they are top 5 most years, well most of the last 6-7 years anyway. They have all the tools in place to be great. They have coaching, facilities, numbers, talent, feeder program, community support, and overwhelming off the charts support from another individual. Now with it all in place, can they take that next step to greatness. I think this season is a do or die (change) for them. Something needs to happen. Or is that just good enough for them? Maybe so!

 

Brian Weinrich wouldn't have added them to the schedule if he didn't think this game was good for the Birds. SK has taken their program to new heights based on their past standards. I agree that if SK wins this year against the Birds, that that isn't enough in my book or the fans of NKY. It has to be sustained and that will be tough to do. See CCH. To be the best, you have to beat the best. More than once!

If SK's goal is to be a top 5 NKY team. I wish them all the luck in the world. I know that is one person's goal but I would think they have bigger goals just like every other team in the state. To be the best 6A team in NKY won't even get you a cup of coffee. Give me Regional championships that lead to state championships. That is what would satisfy me for the team I root for.

 

Let's pretend SK beats Highlands this year. What does that mean? Especially if Highlands wins another state championship? If SK is happy with beating Highlands but again losing early in the playoffs, it means nothing. If I were a player on any of the teams I would take a state championship ring over anything else when it comes to high school football.
