I'm sorry, I am all for people getting a second chance, but when will people ever learn? How many chances do people deserve? If no one will allow him to play football for any team, and if people say he doesn't deserve it, it's not rooting against them, it's that they feel the person doesn't deserve the privilege of getting a scholarship, or to even play football, and that if he has truly changed, he needs to move on with his life.

 

What does this tell other kids? That no matter how many times adults tell them "this is your last chance", that it really isn't their last chance? How is this teaching kids? First, there is no such thing as a "party animal syndrome", I don't care what age you are, you are still responsible for your actions. Yes, people of all ages mess us, but I can take you to the county jail and show you inmate after inmate who have never had a second chance, as well as inmates who has second and their chances and still never learned. As many who have had more than a second chance, they feel privileged, they think they will get out of it yet again, or mommy and daddy will be there to help them yet again.

 

I agree that a scholarship isn't deserved, and I'm on the fence if he should even be allowed to play football ever again unless it's a rec league. It makes a bad example for others, and it takes away a spot for someone who busts their butt and doesn't create trouble. The only thing that matters is where will he be in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? Will he still be going through this? Will people still be willing to give him more chances? Or will he move forward and get along with his life without any major trouble? this is the only thing that matters, when is he going to start moving forward?

I seriously doubt there are any kids out there looking to this situation and thinking they can now get a free pass on bad behavior. Most current high school kids have probably forgotten who Zeke Pike even is, let alone are using him as an example as to who to emulate. Let's not make this situation out to be more than it is.

Specifically because of Pike, I'd guess none, or one at the most. The number of high character (or any character as far as that goes) kids that can play football at a high level is very limited. Zeke, if he is getting a ride, is only taking up one of those spots. I have a son who is a senior in high school, who plays football, that is completely unaffected by Zeke getting another chance.

The only way someone gets directly affected is if Murray pulled an offer from a recruit and gave it to Pike. If a scholly was pulled from a current player, that current player was losing that scholarship whether it went to Pike or someone else. I really doubt anyone is losing an opportunity from Murray taking Pike onboard.

If they have strong academics then they are receiving other help though, correct? If they are then they are not impacted, it they are not then you are correct.

 

Has it been determined what, if any, type of aid he's receiving?

At Murray State I am pretty sure the highest valued scholarship they give is in-state tuition value.

It seems with all the problems he has had maybe they should just focus on him completing college from an academic perspective. However, if he has turned his life around and is willing to put in the hard work I am 100% behind him.

NFL or not, there is value in being in a structured, team environment. Maybe he cannot handle that? We shall see.

I'm actually embarrassed for some of the people's posts in this thread.

I really wish he would of stayed in good favor in Louisville because I really wanted to see what he could do at TE. He really wasn't the best QB at least what I saw, very inaccurate and a lot of interceptions thrown. His size however makes for a nice TE in College. I wanted to see what he could do at that position and would love to see that carry him into the next level.

I really hope he makes the most of it, and is able to stay out of trouble and be a productive member of not just the football team, but the Murray State community as well. Count me in the group that is skeptical that it works out though.
