January 1, 201511 yr Which again, is part of the problem with the 4 team playoff. TCU, and Baylor for that matter, were punished for not playing that extra game. The NCAA at its finest. Their idea of a playoff system is a joke. Again, as GT pointed out, it was the Big 12 that doomed their own teams, not the NCAA. There were tie breakers that they could have used, the Big 12 for some reason decided not to use them and declared them co-champions. Also, this is the first year of any playoff system, it's better than what we had previously, and they will change it to about 8 teams soon enough.

So basically you are agreeing that it should be more than four teams....? I understand the whole issue with the big 12 not having a championship game. That doesn't mean the NCAA should penalise them for not self declaring a champion since they are not allowed to have a championship game, per the NCAA. If the NCAA is going to put that much weight on an extra game, they should allow every conference to play a conference championship game, whether they have 8 teams or 16. That's just another example of how effective the NCAA is at screwing things up.
January 1, 201511 yr If you're going to have a 16-team playoff, cap the number of regular season games at 11 (or 10 if there is a conference championship involved) or pay the players for extra games. D3 plays 10 regular season games, then has a 32-team playoff, meaning the the final two teams will play 5 post-season games. I do not think, however, that the NCAA/schools will approve a limit, given the revenue generated by home games.

TCU is the argument for 8 team playoffs over 4 team playoffs. Michigan State is the argument for 16 team playoffs over 8 team playoffs.

And Michigan State was 8th, so no, they don't qualify as an argument for it.
January 2, 201511 yr As a Big XII Fan, (WVU to be specific), the conference all year was stating, ONE TRUE CHAMPION because all 10 teams played each other, and what happened? Baylor beat TCU, WVU beat Baylor and both Baylor and TCU were declared, Co-Champions from the conference that was going to have one true champion. IMO Baylor nor TCU belonged because our commissioner could not or would not declare a champion and we do not have a conference championship game. As a hater of the BCS, I'm excited about the 4 team playoff, is that all it should be? For now, YES! Maybe in a few years when the tweak it some, we can move to 8, but please no more than 8.

The high school state championship participants in most states play 14-15 games. 12 plus a conference title game and four playoff games have two teams playing 17 games. I disagree in the significance of the added games.

I disagree in the significance of the added games. High school isn't college football. In high school you may play 4 solid teams in a year. In college there aren't many cupcakes. The beating they take is ridiculous. I I have mentioned before 16 is also too many with finals getting in the way and going into the other semester. 8 could be the max IMO.

There will definitely be years where a conference champ will not be one of the six best teams. Also, one at-large is too few. Giving byes with only six teams get messy, as well. JMO- I like a system where a team like Michigan St. gets a shot. The only teams to beat the Spartans this year- Ohio St. and Oregon (both in this year's title game) and they beat Baylor head up, a team that likely would have made the playoff in your scenario.

I don't buy that it can be done at these levels and not at the highest level.
