The whole system is screwed up FSU should be #1 team 29 straight wins. TCU should be ranked 4th. OSU has no business being in the final four.

 

OSU rightfully earned their way in when they dismantled the #13 team in the Big 10 Championship game and did so with their 3rd string QB. TCU should have gone to a conference with a championship game or rally the troops and make their conference play a championship game beginning next year.

I think expanding it to 8 would cover the teams that belong in the playoffs.

 

TCU has a chip on their shoulder. I expect OSU and FSU will play with chips on their shoulders also. Makes a team dangerous.

That's too much for me. I only pay true attention to the playoff games. All the other games are meaningless to me. No way I'd be into watching the #1 team play the #16 team. I'd watch the fourth quarter if it was close. Call me when they get to 8 teams. I wouldn't pay any attention to the 17-32 teams.

 

I guess you don't watch NFL Wildcard games either?

I could see 8 teams provided they switch it to homefield prior to the finals, or at least for the first round. This year we would have had:

 

#8 Michigan State (At-Large) at #1 Alabama (SEC Champion)

#5 Baylor (Big 12 Co-Champion) at #4 Ohio State (Big 10 Champion)

 

#6 TCU (Big 12 Co-Champion) at #3 Florida State (ACC Champion)

#7 Mississippi State (At-Large) at #2 Oregon (Pac-12 Champion)

You cannot compare pro football to college football. Well, you can, it's just a bad comparison.

Also the 17-32 wouldn't fly because coaches wouldn't want to get rid of bowls. Winning bowl games are huge for recruiting. Losing in an NIT type tournament would do nothing

 

Make them the bowl games. The Bowls would love it because finally their game would mean something.

I don't personally think it will ever be viewed as "fair". Someone will always have a gripe.

 

I look at who would be added if you expanded to 16 teams, and while Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Kansas State would all be solid, I see no use in having the likes of Mizzou, Ole Miss, or UCLA making the playoffs. I think MSU is the most impeachable of the top 8 but you really don't have flies on any of them. But once you go past that, well, we're seeing Ole Miss exposed to the world here today.

And that hypothetical team would likely make the top 8. All of the top 8 this year had 2 or less losses. In the 9-16 range, each and every one had three.

DF, I can live with 8, really, but I would rather see 16 just so that the one or two teams each year that had some issue along the way get a shot in the end.

 

Going back positive, I am ecstatic that there is finally a college football playoff and a 4 team playoff is worlds better than the past.

Just like with a team that barely squeaks into the NCAA's in basketball, your postseason performance doesn't justify being included or excluded, IMO.

 

If you just watched the games, you could see TCU was an awesome team that missed out on the playoffs. I have been asking for 16 teams for years. It makes too much sense, IMO.

 

That being said, this playoff is still better than the BCS, IMO.

I agree with that, "not fair" is part of life. However the NCAA could at least make an attempt to eliminate the doubt. Moving to as few as 6 teams could eliminate doubt, moving to 8 teams would be better. With an 8 team playoff, if your the 1st or second team out, you have no one to blame but yourself, or injuries, which is part of the game. However with a four team playoff, TCU or Baylor, basically got left out because their conference doesn't play a championship game.

 

Obviously TCU is a great team, which would no doubt have won their first round game the way they played today, which would have advanced them to the final four. Instead, they never got that chance, since the "commitie" decided to leap frog them with OSU.
