I don't believe they are bad for basketball. But then again, I don't believe UK is as invincible as others believe they are.

 

They have pretty well run roughshod over everyone so far, but they've played everyone in a friendly environment too.

If Kentucky wins 8 championships in a row and other schools start dropping basketball due the dominance you can say what is going on is bad.

 

But one year or even a few years does not provide enough insight. The ebbs and flows of the one-and-done era have already been experienced by the program. Some years are going to be great and others maybe more a struggle. With a round of new AAs each year it may be a little more like a box of chocolates (sorry Forrest) than perennial UCLA-type dominance.

I think Cal learned a lesson 2 years ago. It appears he is mixing in some guys who will stay a couple of years. Ulis, Booker, Matthews, etc. Occasional surprises like the Harrisons and WCS make this a great mix.

I agree, I believe this platoon system is just the beginning of his master plan. Which, imo, is to recruit both one and dones and multiple year players, which would allow the platoon system to continue in some form for a long period of time.

We have to remember that no area in the country follows college basketball as passionately as the Louisville-Lexington axis. It is not as appealing to the rest of the country as it is to us. I'm sure ESPN is just showing what their research indicates will attract the most demographically desirable viewers.

Again, I agree, in most cases. However, this game was different. ESPN aired both the bowl and the basketball game, which one did they put the most emphasis on?

 

Honestly it doesn't make one bit of difference to me, every game UK plays this season is televised nationally, that's all I care about. Couldn't care less which network I watch the game on. I do think its odd that ESPN wouldn't have put the most hyped basketball game of the year on ESPN, instead of ESPN 2. I took a glance at the bowl game and the place was only about 60% full, so I imagine it was less interesting to most than the UK-UL game. But again, it doesn't matter to me, I was still able to watch what I wanted, as was most others, since ESPN 2 is carried by pretty much everyone.

Must have been a different bowl game then, I went back and forth between all of them. Still though, 34,000 isn't much in football, even if it did pack the stadium. It seems that the most hyped basketball game of the season would draw more interest, given the fact that you would have millions of viewers in this state alone.

You can only sell what the stadium holds. I've looked a few places for the overnight ratings, but haven't found them yet. My guess is UC/VPI was at worst within a tenth or two in the ratings if it didn't have more viewers. Reality is football dominates basketball in the ratings, and I doubt UK has the juice you think they do...
