Josh Jaggers resigns from Larue County

I think that had a lot to do with it. Truth be told, I believe this year was expected to be the worst of the two (13-14).

Going off the article in the paper; In 2012 when he won 6 and beat Corbin in the playoffs, he had to replace the entire backfield going into that year from the 2011 season that graduated two RB's who finished in the Top 10 on the All Time Rushing list at LC.

Enter 2013, he had to replace that entire backfield again and by the 2nd game of the season, he had to replace THAT entire backfield (all three were gone. One had gotten in trouble outside of football/school in late May. Another was injured in a preseason scrimmage and the 3rd moved). This year I don't think there was any way around playing the ridiculous number of freshmen. If a coach takes over a job knowing that his junior and sophomore classes at the time were extremely low numbers, everybody might want to make a quick note to self.

I know the paper also said that he was voted Coach of the Year by two different outlets and groups of coaches. Sounds to me like you got a guy that...could he have probably done a few things different? Without question. I'm not sure there is a coach who does. But, also sounds like a guy that walked into a not so good situation & had some serious bad luck a long the way as well.

The problem is as someone else stated no matter how bad a player is mom and dad think hes a D1 athlete. Then add on top of that they may win a few games in middle school and little against teams they don't play in high school, such as Central, Bell, Wayne, and Corbin. Josh has a name and regardless of his record as Head coach I'm sure he will get another shot, Heck it seemed that the Henderson job was his for the taking without any head coaching experience.

If the majority of the people in the community still wanted him as head coach, yet the higher ups didn't want him that's a shame. As it would be if the higher ups decided to keep a coach the community wanted gone.

And your right SEVERAL good coaches started their coaching career with awful records. Some go one to be a Mack Brown, Art Briles, or Sam Harp. Some also never get another chance to be a head coach. i'm hoping that Josh gets that chance to be a HC again.

Let me preface this by saying I love coach Jaggers and what he means to the program at LaRue...but this issue goes A LOT deeper than most understand. Josh interviewed for a few openings last season WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE and upset many people for doing that including a few of his assistants. I'm not saying what Josh did was right, I'm not saying what the administration (read: Superintendent) did was right...what I'm saying is that there is a lot more to this situation than many people are either willing to admit, or know. Anytime a coach is forced out of a program it is bound to give many people a bad taste in their mouths. As an alumnus of LC, I wish both coach Jaggers, who gave me many life lesson when I was in High School there and he coached AND the entire program the very best...I have no doubt both will bounce back and do great things.

So what? What occupations requires you to tell anyone you are interviewing for another position? Teachers, and principals due it all the time. People in all occupations do it all the time. This is people attempting to apply NCAA/College thinking to HS sports. Its not like he sat down with a family and convinced their child to come halfway across the nation and he leave.

The Henderson job came along after his first season as the HC at LaRue in 2012.

Knowing the talent or lack thereof that was behind at LaRue and he was offered the Henderson job and turned it down to stay he either

A. Must have thought the talent at LaRue was much better than it it was

B. Must haves thought he could coach them up if he knew how bad the talent behind the first team he had

C. Really like the area for he and his family and wanted to show loyalty to the school who gave him his first HC job.

Also I seen mentioned in another post is that he will keep his teaching position, is there any truth to that?

He's tenured and has a sweet teaching gig...unless he chooses, he's not going anywhere.

Just so I'm clear on this, some people have no qualms with a Head Coach switching schools if the Head Coach can better himself, financially or otherwise, at a different school, but if a school fires a coach because the administration believes that a new coach will better the program, that is wrong.

I heard a petition is being started by parents and that at least three board members are livid over Jaggers being forced out.

They should be. By all accounts Josh seems to be great guy and leader of young men. Sometimes wins/loses aren't always the most important thing, especially in high school sports.

it is wrong when they flat out put the screws to the coach!!!!!!

That also brings in to question that maybe the higher powers at LaRue may already have a replacement in mind. Considering how teacher positions can be hard to find, and knowing that Jagger's will be there taking up a teaching position for a possible coach.

Also for those close to the program will the other assistant coaches stay on?

it is wrong when they flat out put the screws to the coach!!!!!!

They could be. I don't know. But someone obviously very senior in Administration either (a) believes there is a better coach out there; or (b) has some other reason for wanting to replace Jaggers. If the reason is (a), I'm not sure I'd have the problem with it that some in this thread have pronounced. If the reason is (b), then I'd need to know the reason before I could cast judgment. It's the loyalty comments that have me puzzled. Again, some people have no problem with a coach walking away from a program if he can better himself somewhere else. We've had numerous discussions on this board over the years on that subject. Heck, Chuck Smith agreed to coach at a certain program and before you knew it, he walked away from that commitment to return to Boyle. Many on here were totally fine with that. Well if such behavior is acceptable, then an administration removing a coach because they believed someone else could do better (however "better" is measured) should be fine also I'd think.

Honestly, I don't know what came first: coaches being disloyal to their programs or programs being disloyal to their coaches. But it is what it is (and I'm not necessarily saying what "it is" is all that great). But as more and more schools take football more and more seriously, you'll see this happening more and more often to football coaches. I haven't followed high school basketball in Kentucky all that closely, but my guess would be if I had to guess is that schools dumping head basketball coaches in the pursuit of more wins or bettering the program has been going on in Kentucky for decades and decades.

Depends on the reasoning. There isn't a person in the state of Kentucky who knows anything about Larue County, Larue County High School, Larue County High School athletic programs and their current state and the superintendent of Larue County schools who can say that firing, excuse me, forcing Josh Jaggers to resign was done for the betterment of the football program. Especially when one takes a closer look at the skeletons in the superintendent's closet. You should do some more research on this situation instead of making blanket statements about loyalty and who should be loyal to who. I question how much you know about this particular situation.

the great Coach smith that they speak of took a job for 2 or 3 weeks he didn't even them a year so I do not agee with what he did. But a school will always be able to find a coach but coach has to make a monthly income to survive so yes it will be and has been for a while get them before they get you. And Admin is behind all of this because they hold the power to control someones life!

It doesn't mean they have to keep him in that position, they can move him anywhere they feel he is "needed".

It's asinine to even bring Chuck Smith's name into this but some people like to reach and make assumptions from time to time so it is what it is.

Don't know anything about the politics of LaRue County or the skeletons in the Super's closet that have been alluded to here, but if you do go out and apply for other jobs, you can't be shocked if the school decides to go in a different direction.

All I have to go by is the record as a head coach, so what is some of the evidence that Jaggers is the best coach for the job and has been wronged in this case? And if the talent is low what is the reason for that? I seem to remember some very good LaRue teams in the not so distant past.
