Josh Jaggers resigns from Larue County

The true measure of success of a program/coach is what is done on the field. Many coaches talk around it but it is very hard work and time consuming. Most young coaches today have it difficult because of what it cost to have a family, and are not able to really put the time in necessary to build a program K-12. The reason I mentioned Duncan from the beginning is that he has done it, and raised his family. Opportunities will always come to those who do a good job where they are at, they do not have to look, someone will find them.

Duncan would be a good hire. But he didn't raise a family as a head coach. Zipp and Dre and his daughter graduated from schools where he was an assistant. He didn't become a head coach until his son Christian was going in to high school and he left for Logan shortly after. There are also head coaches who have won and won't get hired by another school because they lack character and decency. There has to be both in my opinion. I do believe Duncan has both going for him.

So is it thr Engstrand guy that was mentioned earlier in the post? Didn't he just come off a 2 win season at Green co?

Yep.

Job had been open a couple weeks, any idea of who's applied?

Several coordinators have applied from word I have gotten.. Wonder now if the former Hawk will return home now that he doesn't have a Head coaching job?

Seems like a very good job opportunity for a quality coach. Given the job Jaggers had done and the stability he had carried on within the entire program, I would feel that being said and moving into a district with Adair, Edmonson, Hart, and Elizabethtown that there would be some big names that would apply. Knowing the Superintendent and Athletic Director, I would feel that if interviews take place it will be a coach that has been though this process and can build on the tradition as well as improve the program. Like said earlier any coach hired should look like Lombardi with the talent returning.

Exactly!

And with the amount of talent returning I assume it will be some very good coaches to apply.

Seems like if LaRue could get somebody stable and quality in place, they have a chance to have some consistent success in a district where its rivals have not been known for consistency.

If not mistaken while Adair has been on the upswing and I think that will continue, they as well as Hart County have only had about 10 Winning Seasons together over the last 35 years. They both have been typical Basketball schools, and have only had a program just to say they had one. Other than some success Robbins had in the late 90's and early 2000's at Adair they have had some talent but no consistency in coaching. I think Gay as well as Boone do well for what they are given. Edmonson County does one of the better jobs across the state year in and out in coaching what they have. If you do not prepare in this district every game will be a toss up, but I think Larue is the only school that will be able to compete with E-Town.

^^Adair County is locked and loaded for the next two years for sure. They have as much talent coming through right now that they have ever had and very well coached. Their playmakers were all sophomores this year.

E-town has a great run of kids, skill kids in particular, from their 2015 Senior-Sophomore class rolling through right now that they haven't had since the early 2000's.

...then again, so does LaRue, especially Sophs-Frosh for next year. Both in numbers and talent. I saw them play E-town Middle School two years ago when both were together and I couldn't count all of them. Their senior class to be next year, like the two that came before them, never have been big in numbers..in that 7-8 range it seems like per class since middle school, but are a much more solid group of kids as a whole than the two classes before them.

I know when Jaggers took the job before the 2012 season, the sophomore class of that year (2014 season senior class) only had three, maybe four kids on the team.

That leads me to a big question? Green Co's Sophomore Class beat Adair Co by 50+, and Larue Co's by 40+, as well as Taylor Co's by 40+. Then should Green Co. be able to make a big run in 2015? I do not like to compare Middle School to High School, so if we are going to do this then Green should have been dominant by your standards.

Heck, I wonder how many good athletes at LaRue skip out on FB because of wrestling? Basketball surely suffers because of it.
I only know of one athlete who quit football to focus on wrestling. I know of zero that skipped basketball because of wrestling. There have been a few that quit basketball and then later turned to wrestling but the two moves weren't related.

Coach Canter's own son played football the entire time he was wrestling. Coach Canter was at various times on the football teams' staff. Right now one of the current assistant wrestling coaches, Coach Zwiep, is also an assistant on the football team.

To me, the basketball team suffers for several reasons, but the wrestling team is dang near last on that list. Honestly, the basketball team probably takes more athletes away from wrestling than vice versa...

Wrestling isn't hurting any sport at the high school level. High school wrestlers typically have given up basketball (or the sport gave up on them) a while ago. Wrestling and basketball are two different types of athletes and schools like Trinity and Campbell county have proven the two sports can coexist together. In Kentucky, there are more kids giving up wrestling for football than the other way around. And specifically at Larue, the wrestling program has not been great for a few years now.

Thanks. Was wondering about that aspect given LaRue's historical success in the wrestling arena. For some schools, it's next to impossible to be competitive at two different sports in the same season because of the competition for athletes. It's clearly a big issue in girls' basketball, where quality tall girls often forego hoops in favor of the volleyball club season. By the same token, I've often found that many of the girls forego hoops because of the physical nature of it compared to volleyball, especially here in the 5th Region, where the hoops play is the roughest in the state. Lots of girls' basketball teams in this region fielding five-guard lineups.
